YESSSSSS!!! I've been waiting for this!!!! Thank you Brun for starting TAC2013. I joined the forum too late and
watched others in TAC 2012 and have been waiting for my turn haha! Languages: Spanish, German (SO tempted to add Russian.. I'm dying to give it a shot!) Team(s): YES! I'm assuming there won't be a German/Spanish team, so I guess I can join both the German and the Spanish team. It's great to see your enthusiasm for the upcoming TAC, and as someone who loves Russian I would encourage you to add the beautiful Russian language to your already fun-looking mix of Spanish and German! No doubt someone else will turn up with better ideas but before I did my first TAC, I started gathering the resources I was going to use. If I were you I'd start gathering resources for Spanish, German and, if you so desire, Russian. The first thing you could do from here is decide whether you want to do Russian or not, and if you decide you do, do you want to be in a team or do Russian individually? Most of us seem to find it much more motivational being part of a team. The Challenge lasts an entire year and of course, that's a long time and no one can be sure of what lies ahead for us in the coming year. The best way I've found to make the most of the time is to draw up a set of goals. In the past I've drawn up goals that have been very difficult to achieve and consequently I 've tended to lose motivation and as a result, the fire burnt out. By all means set goals, but make sure they're achievable. Thinking aloud now, I might try for monthly goals this time around so I don't overwhelm myself too much. I'll probably feel like I've achieved more if I manage 12 or more smaller milestones throughout the year than if I get to the end of the year having only achieved one bigger goal. I tend to organise my thoughts through lists. Every night before going to bed, I write a list of things I want or need to do the next day. I do the same thing for language- learning in various ways. Today I have to learn to write another 10 Chinese radicals and find examples of where each is used, watch part of a Russian мультфильм (animated film) I like called Трое из Простоквашино(Three from Buttermilk Village) and brainstorm the topic of "food" in Mandarin. Perhaps you could do the same sort of thing for your TAC - during the lead-up to it, you could look for resources you enjoy using or for native materials that you could aspire to being able to use. I put you down for Irish :-) Joshkaasik: I put you on the Germanic and Romance teams. You can refer to the first page of this thread to see the (almost) current lists at any time. Your obligations as a TAC-er are: to make your own log, which can be a completely new one, or you can rename an old one and edit the first page to say what page TAC 2013 begins on. You log name should include "TAC 2013" and the names of your teams. Neither of your teams have chosen clever names for themselves yet, but I'm sure they will eventually. As a TAC-er you will be expected to check in regularly to update your own log and to read the logs of your teammates. The purpose of being on a team is, of course, to help and encourage each other by writing in each others logs. What you write in your log is up to you. Most people start with a little introduction of themselves, their chosen languages, and perhaps their current levels, goals and study techniques. You should update regularly throughout the year. Some people like to keep track of hours they study; others don't. It is common to write about what you are studying, how far you've gotten, interesting things you've found, things you are having trouble with, what techniques you are trying, and so on. You can read some of this year's logs if you want to see examples. Other than that, your only obligation is to do your best in your studies and to be a good teammate.
