In this case, movies can be dubbed or not and some of them are released only dubbed. We have to consider that lots of people prefer to watch dubbed movies because it's easier for them to understand. It's their option. However, I'm not really sure if it's a tendency in every city in Brazil, but here in my city the most popular shopping center has more dubbed movies then the most expensive, "chic" one. It's worth mentioning that's the same cinema in both shoppings. Conclusion: The exposure to original English audio doesn't always happen to everyone. This isn't an excuse, of course, just a factor worth considering in this scenario. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Medulin, no, having no exposure to foreigners isn't an excuse, but it takes away a good source of motivation. If you learn something without speaking, it means you like the process. Few can like it as much as we do. And it's pointless to say that the material abunds and one should just get up and do it. This kind of motivation lasts exactly one time. A way to use the skill is the immediate gratification that any activity that you do does have.
I've seen my dad saying "we must do jogging" and really doing it... just once. He stopped insisting after that. :) [edit: forgot to mention, 7 years later we started jogging with friends and did it 5 years in a row, every week.] I've seen a friend buy a Spanish manual, try one lesson, then buy another couple of manuals and not sit down again with them.
