I'm unusually excited about this. It will be a truly special Assimil for an out of the ordinary language. This will be the first Assimil course that I purchase as a complete set including the audio. I think it'll be worth it.
Regarding the text shown on the picture, sandhi has been applied, which is a good thing, considering it seems to be lesson 29 only. However I don't see a version of the text without it, which could be a burden for those starting out, and which in my opinion would be more helpful to beginners than the phonetic transcription which isn't all that necessary considering the perfect regularity and correspondence between the script and how we represent its sounds today. Compounds seem to be broken up by a slash symbol for clarity as well. It should be removed as the text progresses. I heartily recommend anyone curious about this unique and marvelous language to consider making a purchase. Before jumping into it however I believe it would be best to get a head start by working through Thomas Egenes's Introduction to Sanskrit - a clearer and more approachable introduction to this complex language one could not wish for. Just listened to the samples. It was nice, clear enough for me to understand what was
being spoken though one of the males sounded a bit...Southern. I also have no idea how indicative of the overall course lesson 100 was, so I'm still wondering where this will leave the learner once completed. I doubt they'll be picking up Kalidasa any time soon but I suspect that, if the quality is consistent, Narayana's compendium of advice of Bhatta Jayanta would be reachable with a dictionary.
