Good idea, Kanewai!
I hope you’ll keep coming up with new experiment ideas every year: I find the communal aspect of forum experiments very motivating.
And even though I had to drop Assimil Russian (only temporarily, I presume) before the Assimil experiment was over, I think that I’ve learnt a lot from my experiences and from reading about those of the other forum members.
I second the idea of fewer rules and conditions, so that a lot more people will feel welcome to participate. I’m not sure if it’s just an impression, but it seems that the forum is going through a rather quiet period lately, so limiting participation would be counterproductive. On the contrary, we should try to drum up some enthusiasm in this new project: I find it weird that in two days only half a dozen people showed some interest in it.
If the LL and TY experiment gets under way, I’ll see what materials I can find: I imagine I’ll end up with a Teach Yourself course, given that TY, Assimil, and Colloquial are rather common in bookshops and libraries, whereas I don’t think the Living Language series is at all well-established here.

I would be interested in a TY challenge for sure.

I think the experiments should be separate according to the method, that is, one for TY and another one for LL.
LL has the drawback of offering fewer language options.

Just found this discution thanks to Emme's log and it seems I missed this one. I'd
personally be interested to try out either TY or LL (both of them never tried) to work
on
my Mandarin basics.
It indeed seems the experiment kinda fell apart, but liking the idea, I might just try
it
myself around beginning september.
I'm sure there are more people interested who (like me) just missed the topic and even
if
it's not the case, we could start with a small team and it'll grow bigger afterwards.
After all, the Assimil experiment did!
Edit: just saw there's a Norwegian TY. Might go try that out instead!

Would this challenge include LL's Spoken World series?

@embici
It seems that the experiment, as envisioned by Kanewai, is supposed to be much looser than the previous ‘Assimil experiment’ with fewer rules about starting level and resources used. I don’t know much about the LL products, but personally I see no problem with someone's using the Spoken World series. But maybe Kanewai will drop by and tell us his opinion.
@yuhakko
Are you using the Norwegian TY for the current 6wc? If so, I might go to my local library later today or tomorrow and check out what TY course is available right now so that we may start the experiment immediately with whoever is ready. This way we could take advantage of all the impetus the 6wc can give us. I, for one, need a little push at the moment to get back into studying!
And as you say, whoever feels like it can join us later.

@Emme
Sorry for being late, life caught up with me. I got my hands on the Norwegian TY indeed
but I am going to wait for a bit before starting it (I need to get back my routine
first). I was thinking of starting it around beginning september. Anyway, I'm happy to
have seen on your log that you're back in track !
So, I officially announce that I will start this TY experiment on September 1st and for
whoever's up to the challenge, Just say it!

My opinion is pretty open! I think it would be fascinating to have HTLAL test out new or
revised programs like this, and Teach Yourself & Living Language have the benefit of
being more affordable than a lot of other programs.
My own study plans are in flux, though ... so I don't know if I'd take part or not. I'll
definitely be following anyone who does, though!
