ДОБРО ПОЖАЛОВАТЬ Dear friends of the Russian language, welcome to the team thread of Team Катюша (Katyusha)! This thread is our home where we can discuss everything concerning our team and our progress in learning Russian. We can encourage each other, ask questions about Russian language and culture, and arrange Skype sessions or monthly challenges. How does it work? The goal of the TAC (Total Annihilation Challenge) is to stay focused on your target language(s) for a whole year. How much studying you do is up to you. The important thing is doing something, keeping track, and reporting about your progress in your log. If you face difficulties or problems, the team is here to help you. That’s why there are more advanced learners and beginners on the same teams. We should follow each other’s logs, comment on them, and encourage our team mates in order to keep each other motivated. I hope we can invent some small monthly team challenges or have Skype meetings. They are both great ways to keep the team together. Everyone who would like to become a member of this team, please sign up in the common TAC 2014 Sign-Up Thread! As soon as you have signed up, you can create your personal TAC log and inform us in this thread. This post will regularly be updated with the names, logs, and TAC languages of our current members. THIS TEAM IS FULL! WE'RE SORRY THAT WE CAN'T ACCEPT ANY MORE MEMBERS. JANUARY Please write a self-introduction of at least five sentences in Russian and post it here or in your log (in this case, please link it here). Please provide an English translation of your Russian text. Try to use the constructions you already know and tell as much about yourself as possible. If you're an absolute beginner, you may write it in English. FEBRUARY Try to find a Russian song that appeals to you, translate it, and learn its lyrics by heart! If you're a total newbie, you may go for a very easy song, skip the translation, and memorize one stanza only. More advanced learners, please try to memorize an entire song and translate it in any case! MARCH Try to find a grammar point you're currently struggling with and explain it as well as you can. Ask questions about details you're not absolutely sure about, so the team and the guardian angels can help you with them. APRIL Please choose between the following two tasks: 1) Which Russian city would you like to go to and why? Give your explanation in Russian! 2) Describe your best friend in Russian! Beginners should try to write at least five sentences. Advanced learners, however, should go into detail and write as much as they can. MAY For the May Challenge, I thought it would be good to get to know Russian culture a little bit better, so try to find a Russian movie that interests you, watch it, and tell us about it in this thread in Russian! For the purpose of this challenge, it should be a movie originally filmed in Russian, not dubbed into Russian. The length of the film doesn't matter, so a short movie would count the same as a regular one. JUNE I think a lot of you are reading Russian books for the Super Challenge right now, so why not kill two birds with one stone? Please tell us about a Russian book or story you have read and liked - in Russian, of course! Beginners may take a text from their textbook they found interesting. JULY Please explain why you are studying Russian - in Russian! What are your reasons and goals and what motivates you? AUGUST/SEPTEMBER Summer time is travelling time. Where did you go on vacation, what did you do, and how did you like it? Tell us all about it in Russian! Great start indeed. Josquin, this is very well presented. I had no intention of joining a russian TAC untill I saw you and Cristina were on the team.
Under the sounds of Катюша, here is my introduction. When I was a kid I read Michael Strogoff and started dreaming of the steppes. Then I read Pushkin, Dostoevsky and the rest of the greats, and that was it. Add dr zhivago, the hunt for red october, gorky park and some John le Carre films/books, and you can see why I loved culture and language. Who can forget that amazing Hamlet? As if those weren't enough, I made a great russian friend as a university student. An older girl, very educated and kind, who gave me russian (soviet actually) books, intoduced me to Akhmatova's poetry, took me to see Andrey Rublyov in the movies, etc. So I studied russian for a year with a native teacher, in a university classroom. And then life got in the way, I stopped russian and lost touch with my friend. And then I found this forum, and now this TAC, and it's time to finally learn! I hope everyone enjoys their holidays. I'm going to work at a winter camp until the 12th, so I won't have any internet connection from roughly the 2nd to the 12th. I will however be speaking Russian and reading Russian, so that should count for something. Are we going to have any Skype meetings this year?
