Interesting, I'm curious to know more about L'allemand des Affaires and Le néerlandais des Affaires, I've only been able to find little bits of information about them.

I think most of the courses have had re-vamps at some point, I've noticed that the audio that's circulating from French Without Toil has different numbers of the prices of things than whats written in my booklet. I think it might be simpler to just add notes about alternate versions, as long as they're very slight differences.

It would be great if Assimil continued to expand other products to increase vocabulary
in other languages. Maybe the company will re-release the Business German and Business
Dutch again.

Anyway here is my contribution. I have listed the title in the other base languages
also. They are one book and three cds.

?(1992)Die Amerikaner (40 Lessons)

?(1993) Los Americanos

I have 3 generations of different French Without Toil audio - 78s dated 1954, 45s from
the 1960s and cassettes where the printed slip is dated 1980. Each have different
voices on them and changes in prices to reflect the book.

I'll dig out the two des affaires books and give you a review.

OK - here's a brief review of L'allemand des affaires and Le neerlandais des affaires -

L'allemand has 48 lessons and 388 pages and Le neerlandais 51 lessons and 340 pages.

The format in both books is dialogue, terminology glossary (with about 30-40 new items
of business vocabulary per lesson, although not all of these are necessarily foreign
vocabulary - e.g. one lesson explains the difference between FOB, CIF and EXW
contracts), questions about the text (the answer is in the next lesson)and a
translation exercise of a piece of business text like a catalogue or letter.

They both follow a single character through the business world, although deviate from
this at times.

I would put the language at B2, perhaps C1.

Hope that helps.

Yes, thanks so much! I'm always surprised by some of the lesser known old Assimil courses that turn up. Makes me wonder what else there is floating around out there.

@Elixi,

Did the business German and Dutch have audio?

@YnEoS,

There were two Assimil courses I knew about to learn music, but not languages. I
really have no idea where it would be placed. If I learned French and then wanted to
learn more about music, I guess I would use it to gain new vocabulary and learn a new
skill. Just like the idea of learning a new subject in an acquired language. Re-
enforcing the new language with this type of sequence.

I do think music does help in language learning. In a way the courses help language
learning indirectly.

?2004 Le Solfège sans peine (book and 3 cassettes)

According to library entries I have seen there is audio for both courses - however, I
have never seen the tapes for sale on ebay or Priceminster.

@Elexi,

Thanks!

Now the hunt to find the audio and how many tapes with each course. I will probably
email Assimil and ask if they intend on ever releasing more Business courses for other
languages. Right now though, they are in the midst of releasing so many titles, it
could be a while for them to get to it, but who knows. Including the business Dutch and
German titles, there were French, Spanish and English, so that is five I am aware of.

I did see one review for the "Le Solfège sans peine". It was a negative one, but not
directed to the effectiveness of the course. Here is the google translation. Just for
people's curiosity.

"I do not recommend this book because the drawings are too caricatured for children."
