I have to say that I often write in support of Duolingo on here, but I often stop using it as well. I think I haven't used it for at least two months. Part of the reason is what you write about, the fact that it can be too picky about translations. However, if you submit a support request saying that your translation should be accepted, they will eventually fix the issue. Am I right in thinking that Dutch is one of their newer languages?

As to the question of vocabulary you don't need yet, I don't worry too much about that because you will need it eventually. Last year I did the Christmas lesson, and thought I'd never need some of the terms, such as "lutin" for "elf". The next month I came across "lutin" in a book.

Again, I don't think it matters if the vocabulary is grouped by category or not. Most words in Duolingo will come back in a variety of lessons anyway.

But if it was bothering you, you've made the right decision for you. As I said, I stopped using it (for French) and I'm about halfway through the tree. I will probably come back to it, but I might not. I like it better in theory than in reality!

Dutch is still in beta, i believe, so yes it's one of the new courses. Also, if you think your answer should've been accepted you should add it. It'll help others down the line and maybe even you the next time you come across it ;)

I didn't say the Duolingo is not good.
I say that I was having problems using it and that was slowing me down, so I decided not to use it anymore.
