Oh, I wish the beta was for another language so that I could participate too. It looks
like there is finally an unanimously liked new product. :-)

Well done, it looks like you've reached the end of the Memorize section. That's impressive. We'll be
adding more phrases very soon, but until then we urge you to check back daily to practice the words you already
know.
What's next? Why don't you improve your skills even further and head over to the Read and Listen sections. |

The dashboard shows 4715 words in 63 hours 38 minutes, 92% of words of any text. Today is day 30.
I clicked on Read and there is a new easy reading there. It is a 7 page transcript of many of the easy audio dialogues
from French by French. They are in the order of the ongoing story. The reading is nice for review.
I clicked back on Memorize and it has some review cards already in the queue. |

Big congratulations to you Luke! So you know French now.
I was a bit surprised because for some reason I had the impression that it had 6000 words. But they are clearly still working on it.

Can I still say, "pardon my French" when I screw up?

Congratulations, luke!
As for the number of words, we do have 6k of them in our system, but only 4700 or so are "switched on" for everyone to see at the moment - the ones that have been turned off are either too colloquial (e.g. strong expletives) or represent forms of a (as a rule, regular) word that the user has seen in the game already (e.g. masculine and feminine plurals of a regular adjective, for which the singular forms have been learnt previously). Do you think we should switch them all on again?

Sure. The more the merrier. It's exactly some of the details like pluralization, gender, and conjugation that I've found most useful at the Lingvist.

As for strong expletives, is there some way to ask users their birthday? That way you could reserve expletives for 15+. As a teacher, I know schools will be less likely to use the course if there are a lot of expletives. On the other hand, you could reserve them for after the 4700 core words, and students will be motivated to get to that point so they can learn them!

Another option is simply to let the user decide whether or not to include them.

There were a couple of words I ran across that surprised me a bit. I wasn't offended, but hadn't seen them
before. "pisser" is one that was easy to remember. There
are a couple more.
