NUN O PANIR O SABZI

Welcome to my log for TAC2014! This year, I'm studying Persian only. No other languages are getting in my way this
time. I'm hoping to apply for graduate schools next year, and I need to have "Demonstrated current proficiency in a
modern language other than your native tongue." Whatever that means.

The title of my log ("Nun o Panir o Sabzi" means "Bread and Cheese and Greens". I was hungry when I created this
log. See below:

BACKGROUND

I'm ashamed to say that I reached B1-level Persian pretty quickly and have since slid back to A2. Instead of kicking
myself for it, I plan to work really hard this year. I hope to reach B2 by the end of 2014.

GOALS & CHALLENGES

January
-Translate one Persian poem or song into English (20 lines total)
-Complete Living Language Spoken World Farsi lessons 7-10 (one per week)
-Send one email, Facebook message, or Facebook comment to a Persian friend each week
-Do four Persian "word of the week" posts, one each Sunday

WORD OF THE WEEK

Last week's (very belated) word of the week is:

آرزو
(aarezoo)
wish

See this great video asking 50 Iranians on the street
what one wish they have.

SENTENCES

برای شما آرزوی خوشبختی می کنم
baraaye shomaa aarezooye khoshbakhti mikonam
I wish a blissful life for you *for newlyweds

برای شما آرزوی سلامتی می کنم
baraaye shomaa aarezooye salaamati mikonam
I wish a healthy life for you *for someone recovering from illness

من آرزوی دیگه ای ندارم
man aarezooye dige’i nadaaram
I don’t have any other wish

من آرزوهای بزرگی دارم
man aarezoohaaye bozorgi daram
I have big wishes

آرزوهای بزرگ
“Aarezoohaaye bozorg” = Great Expectations (by Charles Dickens)

Great to see your log is up, Élan! Love the name and your first entries! The word of the week entry with example sentences is really very helpful. I have a song called Aarezoomeh (by Mansour) on my laptop, but I didn't know what it means. I won't forget it now :) I'm looking forward to the next words!

I'm sure you'll recover whatever skills you have lost quickly.
