5 Dec.
Today one of the dogs in my house chewed through my headphones (for the second time!) so it's made studying Spanish a bit awkward, since I am listening to everything on the stereo and am stuck inside. It's also a different feeling altogether with the sound coming from the speakers than from headphones in your ears, I don't know how to explain it. They also chewed up the wordlist I made the other night :/
Today I started Unit 4 and went through it completely once, and before going to bed I'm going to review the dialogues and some of the more troublesome drills. Other than that, I did Pimsleur lesson 27 once, but it's hard to focus on anything for a while. I never realized how well headphones keep out outside distractions! Anyway, I also did my SRS reviews today and I'm thinking of doing another wordlist, but I'll probably leave that for tomorrow when I hopefully am feeling more refreshed. Today was rather stressful and focusing on memorizing a bunch of words is probably a bit much to ask of my mind right now. I didn't do any of the MT Vocab course today.

6 Dec.:
Today I tried to focus on finishing up Unit 4, but I don't think I managed it. I went through the dialogues a bunch of times and went through the entire unit once. I had intended to go back over the drills and repeat the troublesome ones, but I noticed that I was starting to feel tired so I decided to work on my wordlist as I put it off yesterday for today. I reviewed 14 words that I was having trouble recalling from my last wordlist, then added 125 new words. They're now all in Mnemosyne, bringing my total to 1214 words. To stay on track for my pre-TAC goal I'd need to do add another 50 cards or so tomorrow, I guess we'll see how that goes.
I also did Pimsleur lesson 28 today, albeit only once as I was trying to focus on finishing Unit 4 today. No MT Vocab today either. Did today's SRS reps, and for the first time in a while there aren't any days with three digits of repetitions to do! Well, until I answer the cards I entered into Mnemosyne today.

7 Dec.:
Today I worked on Unit 4 and started to feel like I was almost ready to move on. I also finished Pimsleur lesson 29.
8 Dec.:
Today I reviewed Unit 4 once and started through Unit 5. After that, I finally finished Pimsleur II which was exciting. I ended up reviewing lesson 30 once more before going to bed.
9 Dec.:
Today I ended up being sick (I think I have a sinus infection) and spent most of the day in bed. I reviewed Unit 5, but for the first time in the two months or so I've been doing the Pimsleur lessons, I didn't do a lesson today.
10 Dec.:
Feeling really out of it, but just laying in bed listening to Unit 5. I'm hopefully going to start on Pimsleur III today, but we'll see if I feel like it.
UPDATE: I ended up reviewing Unit 5 (actively) for about 4 hours. I didn't think I would feel ready to move on today, but somehow I managed it. Así que mañana comienzo Unidad 6. También hice lección 1 de Pimsleur III y comenzaba hacer otro "wordlist". Necesito escribir uno casi todos los diás hasta el término del pre-TAC para alcanzar mis objetivos.
You can also assume that each of these days I did my SRS reps, although I ended up doing one day's reps twice after Mnemosyne didn't record them (I think it doesn't save the cards you've done until you close the program). I haven't added any more cards, I actually ran into a long string of cards in English->Spanish format so I'm down to 1187 cards. I've got a lot of catching up to do just to reach my PRE-TAC goals!

Heh, Jar-Pitsa that picture describes her very well.
11 Dec.:
Today I did:
-Pimsleur Lesson 2.
-a runthrough of Unit 6
-SRS reviews
I'm going to try to do some more reviewing of Unit 6 as well as add some more words to my wordlist. I have about 90 words or so to add to Mnemosyne, but I think I need maybe 300 or 400 to catch up to where I should be right now with respect to my pre-TAC goals. As a sidenote, I'm finding the words from my last few large "dumps" into Mnemosyne are starting to sort themselves into my long-term memory, although I am starting to wonder if that one simple glimpse of the word is enough to keep it in my memory.
EDIT: I have also been considering trying to write my log in Spanish (and probably an English translation to be sure that what I am trying to say is conveyed properly), but my Spanish isn't to the point where I can be sure I am writing with relatively few mistakes, so I don't want other learners of Spanish reading a log of mistakes. I tried to resolve this by writing a daily learning log in Spanish on paper, but I quickly grew bored with that. In any case, it would be interesting to look back on my progress, having a physical indication of where I was with the language at a specific point in time (a dated Spanish log-entry).
(AND AGAIN): I downloaded French in Action tonight and got really distracted by it. I watched the first two lessons (really, the first is just an overview of what the course is about) and I'm a little confused how to use it in conjuction with the audio & text-/workbook. I'm coming from ZERO French experience, which maybe isn't a great idea. Anyway, I watched lesson 2 first then went through what I think was the "text" audio you're supposed to listen to afterwards. It seemed like it was just the audio of the video without the visual part? Another big issue is I'm not sure how to pronounce a lot of the sounds of French. I guess I'll probably figure it out as I go along. It'll be a nice break from those two hour Platiquemos sessions, even if it's just watching the videos :)

Thanks irrationale :) Unfortunately I'm starting to feel like I'm slipping a little, it's not that I don't have time (I have plenty of it!) but that no one wants to sit around listening to me shouting Spanish responses to a voice coming out of the stereo (I really need to get another pair of headphones!). This means I've been concentrating most of my studying into really weird times, staying up late to make up for what I couldn't do during the day and also not getting a lot of sleep. I really need to get a good schedule worked out.
Anyway, sorry for rambling.
12 Dec.
Today I reviewed Unit 6 for a little over two hours (I'm guessing). I feel pretty comfortable with everything except the Conversation Stimulus, which is giving me a lot of trouble. I'll have to try to work it out tomorrow, hopefully I can finish off the unit tomorrow.
I ran through Pimsleur lesson 3 today, and I really should review lesson 2/3, or at the very least lesson 3. I really don't care for much of the vocabulary they're introducing now and I'm starting to feel like it's more trouble continuing Pimsleur than it's worth. It seems like a shame to not just finish it off after doing it everyday the past two months, but when I think about another month of it it's a little discouraging.
I also did my SRS reviews for today and after hitting Submit I'm going to work on my wordlist which I've promised to do for three or four days now. After that I might watch more French in Action. I used that today to motivate me to sufficiently study my Spanish, and I'm surprised that it really worked :)
One last thing, I like the FSI course a lot and actually think I have a lot more fun with it than Pimsleur. I also really liked Michel Thomas, although I don't feel like I retained what he taught very well, especially in the Advanced Course. For FSI, the different varieties of drills and the variation drills in particular I feel are really helping me out. It's still a little early in the course to really notice much improvement in the way I speak Spanish, though, as so far it has all been a review from things that have been drilled pretty extensively by Pimsleur, MT, and my grammar books. Not to say I've just been flying through each unit, though, because I certainly haven't. Some new vocabulary and the complexity of some of the sentences take me some time to put together. I'd say that 6-8 hours per unit is a pretty good estimate, as I've been spending about 4-6 hours per unit as it is (and this is mostly a review for me, minus the vocab). I really need to find someone to verbally speak Spanish with to really gauge how conversational I am. Writing e-mails and typing IMs is nice, but I have plenty of time to resort to dictionaries and double-check my grammar, though I certainly don't know all the grammar.
Off to do my wordlist :)
UPDATE: I added 127 words to Mnemosyne (still under "Not Memorized"). My total is 1291. Halfway to the pre-TAC, a quarter of the way to my pre-TAC goal :P

13 Dec.:
Today I reviewed Pimsleur lesson 3 (from yesterday) and went through lesson 4 once.
I also spent a couple hours finishing up FSI Unit 6, and I think I'm ready to move on to Unit 7 tomorrow. I also wrote down a list of 132 x 5 words to learn, which should put me in pretty good shape for my pre-TAC goals. I won't have this computer at all next week so my SRS reviews are going to get way out of line, hopefully it won't completely mess me up.
