Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 39 - Lesson 38
Besides the forementioned lesson, I've done some 10 minutes extra grammar studies. To tell you the truth, I'm not enjoying that much the book from Wheeler, Yates and Dols. I'll try to figure out if there is some good reason for that opinion or I'm just too picky.
Time required for individual lessons (minutes)
Trenta-sis (36) = 20
Grammar = 28
Trenta-set (37) = 29
trenta-vuit (38) = 32
Total time for groups of lessons (hours)
1 to 7 = 2.1
8 to 14 = 3.1
15 to 21 = 2.8
22 to 28 = 3.8
29 to 35 = 3.1
I would add about 1.0 hour for each group due to repetitions during commute.
Total time
1 to 35 = 19.9 hours

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 40 - Lesson 39
Bon Nadal a tots!
In spite of today being a complex day, I've managed to complete lesson 39 and even take dictation from lesson 6. Lesson 39 teaches us numbers, which is something I often don't learn as thoroughly as I should.

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 41 - Lesson 40
The speech pace increases steadily but slowly during the last lessons. Now, pauses inside each line seems to diminish, but I'm not going to measure it. On the other hand, I'm going to make some word frequency analysis.

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 42 - Lesson 41
The dictation is a very useful activity. At least for me, it's the best way to do a sort of active exercise. Edit: At this point of learning, of course.
The translations from Spanish to Catalan, as suggested by some exercises, are somewhat meaningless, since I'm not trying to actively memorize words, in the spirit of "assimilating the language".
Of course, things would be totally different, if it wasn't to follow as much as possible the guidelines of this experiment.
It is clear that I'll need to understand better some phonetical points, because I'm mixing v's and b's, which gets worse due to word similarities. For instance, canvi and cambio.

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 43 - Lesson 42
Sixth review lesson. Prepositions are a big problem for me in English and German. Even in Esperanto, prepositions are the most complex grammatical stuff. However, it seems that I'll have almost no problem with prepositions in Catalan. Let's hope so! :-))
There isn't much to say about this last group of lessons. On the other hand, it seems (see graph) that the number of words and text complexity are going to increase fast in the near future.
The picture below includes time data for all lessons. I've decided to do so, in order to see what waits me next.
Time required for individual lessons (minutes)
Trenta-sis (36) = 20
Grammar = 28
Trenta-set (37) = 29
Trenta-vuit (38) = 32
Trenta-nou (39) = 28
Quaranta (40) = 22
Quaranta-una (41) = 28
Quaranta-dues (42) = 15
Total time for groups of lessons (hours)
1 to 7 = 2.1
8 to 14 = 3.1
15 to 21 = 2.8
22 to 28 = 3.8
29 to 35 = 3.1
36 to 42 = 3.4
I would add about 1.0 hour for each group due to repetitions during commute.
Total time
1 to 42 = 24.4 hours

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 44 - Lesson 43
So, we finaly have a lesson about soccer and the great Barcelona. I'm quite sure that in the near future my Flamengo and Barcelona are going play unforgetable matches :-)
It should be added that besides my v's versus b's problem, I'm also having trouble with the pervasive schwa.

Inspired by a HTLAL thread, I've decided to compile a very incomplete list of songs that I like, from musicians who speak the languages that I study.
Of course, some of the chosen musicians alone have dozens of wonderful songs. However, it was impossible, for various reasons, to avoid multiplications in some cases, such as Bach, João Pernambuco, Django Reinhardt, Pixinguinha, Gus Kahn, Isham Jones, Amália Rodrigues and Cartola.
It could be argued that some of these musicians wouldn't be correctly associated with a given language, for instance the German Gus Kahn and the Manouche Django Reinhardt, but it seems easy to show how strongly linked they are to a given language.
For me, some of these songs are much better than most of the others. Anyway, I like to listen to all of them and the number of times that I've listened to each one is not necessarily connected to how good they are from the, hard to define, point of view of their musical quality.

I'm only in the beginning of the process of learning Catalan and thanks to the Assimil Experiment guidelines, at this moment I'm avoiding to listen to anything outside the Assimil recordings.

I've listened to some original Esperanto music, but so far none has been memorable.

Assimil Experiment: El Catalán sin esfuerzo - Day 46 - Lesson 44
I didn't study much yesterday, also due to the time needed to finish my music list above :-))
Anyway, today's lesson reaches the new time and number of words record. In spite of that, I understood it almost completely after a single listening. Of course, some words were unknown, but their role in the text was clear. The past participle seems very similar to the Portuguese one, but I'm sure that there must be differences, which I'll need to learn.
Time required for individual lessons (minutes)
Quaranta-tres (43) = 22
Quaranta-quatre (44) = 28
Total time for groups of lessons (hours)
1 to 7 = 2.1
8 to 14 = 3.1
15 to 21 = 2.8
22 to 28 = 3.8
29 to 35 = 3.1
36 to 42 = 3.4
I would add about 1.0 hour for each group due to repetitions during commute.
Total time
1 to 42 = 24.4 hours
