I've added you to my mempals. I think it's a good idea to regroup that way.

Wow, 非常感谢你!这是很好。Thanks a lot. Is 兄 exactly like 哥哥 and
姊
like 姐 or is there some kind of semantic difference? |

As you got no answer yet, I'll do it. They're "semantically" the same, but they have different usage. To keep it
simple,
you can just consider that when you want to refer to a specific person, you use any of 哥哥, 姐姐 etc (the
"doubles"),
but when you refer to "brothers" (they cannot be the 哥哥 of each other!), "sisters", or "brothers and sisters" (as in
your sentence), you use 兄弟 and 姊妹(/姐妹). Or to make it clearer, you don't use any of 兄, 弟, 姊, 妹 on its own,
but
rather in conjugation. |

Thanks, that's great and very logical.
Oh and I'll be able to continue with my chinese college class after all. I had my first lesson last evening. We
learned about drinks and fruits mostly. My teacher says 桔子 and 橙子 aren't the same, one being tangerine and
the other orange. Is it accurate or does it change depending on regions of China? Because some dictionaries do
list 桔子 as orange.
She just came back from China the day before and told us how much of a shock she had from the growth in
pollution over there.

橙子 and 桔子 are indeed different, however there's 橘子 and 桔子 (both júzi) which are the same fruit just spellt differently...
