For the February Challenge I'm posting a gorgeous video of 강산에 's beautiful song, 가꾸로 강을 거슬러 오른 저 힘찬 연어들처럼 (like the powerful salmon swimming upstream against the river's current).

KangSanEh: Salmon

Lyrics are available at that link, too (English and Korean).

Wonderful song, can't stop listening to it, hope you like it too.

Hey I know I'm a little late but internet suddenly crashed for a while so I couldn't
post anything. The song I chose is My
Love- Ailee ft. Swings
I only translated the first half and used a dictionary
for the whole thing! I have the real English translation but I didn't change anything
just to see how close i really got which wasn't very much at all sometimes. Well anyway
here it is:
You gonna be a My Love X 2

내가 너무 너무나 힘들 때면
I'm having too much difficulty
언제나 내 옆에서 니 어깰 빌려줘
When I'm near you...
너만 내 옆에 있으면 그 어떤 것도 난
I hope to always be by your side
두렵지 않아 넌 날 지켜주는 Boy
Do not be afraid, keep guard everyday

woo woo woo woo woo
날 웃게 해준 한 사람
You are the person to make me laugh
woo woo woo woo woo
날 지켜줄 단 한 사람
The only person to protect me

때론 다투기도 하지만
There are times when we quarrel but
그래도 너만 있어준다면 Alright
you're here for me alright
이 노랠 너와
This song's for you

You gonna be a My Love
딴 여자완 달러
another women with money
니가 무슨 시곌 찼는지
What kind of watch you wear
어떤 차를 타고 다니든지
Which car you ride often

난 상관없어
I don't care
다른 건 관심 없어
Because I have no concern for different things

Baby you’re my love
Ma ma love Ma ma love
Love Love

Also I have a question about conjugating verbs. Is there a resource anyone could
recommend that would teach it to me.

The great thing about Korean is there's not much conjugating. Verbs either stay in the basic form or they take on the 아/어/여 form before attaching to the grammatical ending. So easy!

There's just a small number of unusual ones (like 듣다 모르다 붓다 etc.) that you have to learn individually because they don't follow the typical pattern. Here is a site that will conjugate Korean verbs

dongsa.net

You can check out talktomeinkorean.com Level 1 Lesson 16 for an explanation of whether to use 아 어 or 여 in conjugations.

I didn't specifically look for them, but I assume TTMIK also has lessons explaining how to conjugate the so-called "irregular" verbs, the ones whose base ends in ㅂ ㅅ 르 etc. Even those have rules, so they're not all that irregular.

For each new grammatical construction that you encounter, you just need to pay attention to how it attaches to the verb. It will either attach to the basic form of the verb or you'll need to conjugate with 아 어 여 before attaching. That takes a little while to get used to, but it makes sense (or just sounds right) after a while.

I'm sorry for the delay. I haven't had internet access for the past few days. Unfortunately I wasn't able to complete the song challenge, but I still learned some Mandarin words from it and took the time to read up on the phonetics, so I'll say it was worth it. Congrats to everyone who made it!

MARCH TEAM CHALLENGE rabbit

The March Challenge is to work through a GLOSS lesson in your target language(s). They are free online lessons by the Defense Language Institute and are available in Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, covering the team's main languages. The levels roughly correspond to the CEFR scale: A1 = 0/0+, A2 = 1, B1 = 1+, B2 = 2/2+, C1 = 3/3+, C2 = 4/4+. The lessons all use native materials like TV snippets and newspaper articles and focus on different skills. It's up to you how intensively you study your chosen lesson. Ideally, you'll do something that suits your level of proficiency and is a little challenging. You have time to post about your experiences with the lesson until March 31.

Somebody recently posted in this thread some links to Korean songs. I listened to a few
of them a couple days ago and they were great, but I can't find that post anymore. Anyone
know what happened to it?
