I completely agree with leosmith about Penguin being by far the best Russian course available out there!
Its focus is not on pronunciation, indeed. You can improve that with Assimil or Pimsleur, or even Michel Thomas, that, unlike Penguin, are all audio based courses, but in terms of explaining the grammar in an easy and didactic way, no one beats Penguin.

And how does Pimsleur teach pronunciation?

Mark, I've never used Pimsleur for Russian, but in general they have mostly audio-based lessons, so I guess you'll learn the pronunciation just by listening to a native speaking in Russian, not reading about it on a paperbook.

And after using all these courses you thought that ъ meant a very short pause and
couldn't explain what ь meant before a vowel. I'm not criticizing you, but all these
resources do not allow to understand what is what in Russian.

Not at all, I've never used Pimsleur and just dabbled with Assimil. Audio resources won't explain to you what softening or hardening is, of course, but you might learn it "by ear", just like a Russian native would learn as a child.
But I've never really used them, so I can't really tell for sure.

Why do you think no resources adequately explain Russian phonology?

I don't think so, tarvos. But I see what I see.

like that:
я говорю по русский
сский, сский, русский, русский, по русский, рю, ворю, говорю, я говорю
я говорю по русский
say... I speak russian.... (wait a moment) я говорю по русский
say again...
I'm pretty sure one can learn something from that.
[Edit: Forgot the most important thing! below...]
Today's report
I was too lazy to go to the gym today and I had to work really hard, so I didn't take
any pimsleur lessons today.
Penguin: I did a review of past lessons. It consumed my today's entire freetime.
