Another family incident, this time my mother - a fall off a ladder resulting in two broken ribs and a T4 spinal fracture - some lung compromise from the rib fractures but fortunately no spinal chord involvement. The thoracic fracture has now been treated surgically, though lots of uncomfortable rehab still to come once lung functionality is brought up to par.
This year sucks. The karma points I have diligently been collecting and saving over a lifetime have proven less useful than one might have hoped.
Study - not much in the circumstances. Will get back to it soon.
Media: Watching The Dark Knight (Le chevalier noir) in french with french subtitles:
- Batman : Alors, tu vas m’adorer…
____
(entre Batman and Alfred)
-
Lousy mismatch between french dialogue and french subtitle - makes sense if they are trying to use shorter sentences for the subtitles in terms of pacing with the dialogue, but there were at least a couple of places where the dialogue in question only involved one or two words, yet they were different between dialogue and subtitle. The best I have seen yet for concordance between French dialogue v. subtitle is No Country for Old Men, to which I will be returning soonish.

Back now from a brief hiatus.
Pimsleur II, units 17 through 21, twice each over the last little while.
Media: Le chevalier noir:

Thx EL, always appreciated. Though frankly, I am not sure I would know which end of the horse to get up upon, and the only reason I can think I might attempt such a stunt would be to avoid les fourmis.
I was pretty sure this would happen some day.
I tend to think it is a good development - humans started well and have had a reasonably good run for a while, but really its all kinda falling apart now and we have made a mess of it. Time for the next contestant, so je dis à mes nouvelles amis les fourmis, Bonne Chance. Ou comme Kent Brockman (Les Simpsons) a dit "and I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords and would like to remind them that as a trusted television personality I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves."

Pimsleur II, unit 22 (deux fois)
French.about.com - a number of sections from Week 3 lessons concerning avoir v. faire v.

Salut tricoteuse, merci beaucoup.
J’aime bien regarder quelques films plusieurs fois.
Regards,
le Spanky

Ah ! :-)
