Hi! Where do we have [w] as an allophone in Finnish? Yes it does exist as free-variant allophone, but so does [ʁ] ("french r") and many others. There's for me a great difference between complementary and free-variant allophones because the latter are, if not limiteless, very numerous in any language. I know this is an old thread now, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned that "shepherd" ought to be spelled (and pronounced, as far as I know) that way, rather than "shepard." This might make a difference to transcription in a foreign language...

In Romanian: Dă cuic braun fadăr djamps ăuvăr dă leizi șepărd dog, uailst iting lemăn ceaclet uit stăuns. That's the best I can do, 'cause I think it's a bit hard to find the "right letters" matching the sounds. - Especially when there are no additional letters in Greenlandic. This is my best attempt at Malayalam:
ദ ക്വിക് ബ്രൌണ് ഫാദ ജംപ്സ് ഓവ ദ ലെയ്സി ഷെപ്പഡ് ഡോഗ്, വൈല്സ്റ്റ് ഈറ്റിങ്ങ് ലെമണ് ചോക്ളെറ്റ് വിത്ത് സ്റ്റോണ്സ്. എ യങ്ങ് ലെയ്ഡി ഇസ് സിങ്ങിങ്ങ് ഇന് ദ ചാച്ച് നൌ,സ്റ്റേന്റിങ്ങ് നിയര് എ ലാജ് വിന്റോ, ഓള്ദോ ഷീ കാണ്ട് ബീ ബോദഡ് ടു റിയലൈസ് ഇറ്റ്, Da kvik brauṇ fāda* jaṃps ōva da leysi ṣeppaḍ ḍōg, vailst īttiṅṅ lemaṇ cōkḷett vit stōṇs. E yaṅṅ leyḍi is siṅṅiṅṅ in da cācc nau, stēntiṅṅ niyar e lāj vintō, ōḷdō ṣī kāṇṭ bī bōdaḍ ṭu ṟiyalais itt. The fact that Malayalam has an alveolar plosive ([t]) gives it an edge over almost all other Indian languages for this sort of thing (they have to use retroflexes). *Strictly speaking, this "f" is an aspirated "ph", but these days it can stand for either one ("ph" in Sanskrit borrowings and "f" in English borrowings, although some people seem to get confused and pronounce it as "f" in Sanskrit words as well).
