I learned mostly through Lambdin's Introduction to Sahidic Coptic (published in the 80's, almost complete on Google books). It provides 30 short lessons, clear explanations and a lot of exercises and readings to practice your new skills. Layton's Coptic in 20 lessons (published in 2007) is also a really good book. The grammar is more detailed than in Lambdin so you get a better view of the language as a whole. I still only see the boxes on your coptic font but it appears that you and Ellasevia can see the font. Is there something I need to install to be able to see it?

So, this now a bilingual log, Coptic and Turkish together.
The urge to learn Turkish came to me last week when browsing through the FSi language courses available online. I read a bit of the Turkish and as the language seemed awesome, here I am ! My goal is mostly reading fluency but obviously I will aslo try to develop some listening/speaking/writing fluency. I am (or, better said, was) totally new to Turkish apart from the fact that I studied Manchu during a few months. But as these two languages may not even be related, I doubt it will help (except the fact that it gave me some exposure to an agglutinative language). At first, I will try to finish the old Teach Yourself Turkish by G. Lewis. It seems to be highly estimated and I like the way it is written (I have trouble to handle dialog-based textbooks). Along with the Teach Yourself book, I'll try to read some "real" Turkish (newspaper, Harry Potter, etc). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Welcome as my new teammmate in the team yumusak "G"! I will try to keep an eye on your log. I have now studied Turkish for almost three years and even if I took the descision to change target languages I will remain interested in people sudying and posting about Turkish. :)

I am currently on lesson 4 of TY.
Lessons 1 and 2 were easy but the third one took me a long time. It introduced a lot of new grammar items and a lot of new vocab, so things were getting tougher and I began to mix the Verb I with the Verb II endings and the possessive suffixes. I reread the lesson carefully and things are clearer now. Today I did lesson 4, seemed so much easier than lesson 3 ! I also began to make an Anki pack as my command of the vocab is not so good (especially the verb list in lesson 3). So after three days studying Turkish, I must say I am really, really pleased with the language. I like the way it looks like when written, I like the way it sounds and I like the grammar ! 1 person has voted this message useful | |||
