Everything's at a complete standstill at the moment. After filling out a mountain of paperwork and dealing with a series of bureaucratic blunders, we're still waiting on the visas before we can even start to make arrangements for moving to Hawai'i.
I thought it'd be relatively easy once I'd dotted all the 'i's and crossed all the 't's as a law-abiding Brit (after all, we're supposed to have that "special relationship" with the US). The reality, however, is more like "special needs", especially for a half-Irish guy with a Russian wife and a background in Arabic computational linguistics.

Poor dear, you both have my deepest sympathy. I have been 5 times to the Russian embassy the last two weeks, and got our visas yesterday - leaving tomorrow. I feel I know the people at the consulate so well by now, that I considered inviting the girls working there over for a drink...

I feel your pain. Applying for a student visa for Croatia has been such a headache! And I won't even get the damn thing until I've been living in Croatia for a month already... Good luck with yours!

Thanks guys! I'm really glad they finally granted you a Russian visa, Cristina. Roll on the big adventure! And ellasevia...I hope everything gets sorted out for you soon too, mate. I'm already missing your colourful language logs. :)

Teaanngooooooooooooo,
How are you? How about an update on that paperwork? Any news on the visas? I hope you're that much closer to
unhindered access to Mauna Lua macademia nuts (I think that's what they're called, anyway--all I know is that
they're delicious. I do hope you're not allergic to nuts, though).

@Tecktight
Great to hear from you Kat...I bet you've had your hands full these last couple of months too. I'm so glad to hear that you've made lots of friends as well as progress in Russian during this time, especially over the last fortnight.
After a long hiatus, I've put Russian temporarily on hold to start up a few interesting new language projects ("Raggle-taggle Gypsy, O", "Lift off in Latin" and "Carry on Cleo"). I aim to post an update on all this here soon, once I get the time between preparations for Hawai'i and finding my prize nuts (lol).
