Good day everyone!
I have joined this challenge as an individual. My goals are as follows: Russian: Ideally, get up to a B2-C1 level, although I'm unclear as to my current level. Finnish: A2 would be great, I'm basically at 0 right now. French: Review and remember the grammar and spelling rules, and increase my vocabulary. It's my second native language (all schooling from age 5-19 was completely in French) Так, что ещё? Я преподаватель английского языка. Я живу и работаю в России а точнее в Питере. В моём последним году университетской учёбы, я решила изучать русский язык. В детстве хотела и старалась сака но не получилось так как практики не было. После университета я деньги заработала и через год летела в Россию на год. Там очень красиво и после года не хотела лететь обратно в Канаду. I sat down and did unit 1 of Teach Yourself Finnish. I had done it before (a few times actually), but generally got sidetracked afterwards.
I also listened to two very short podcast lessons in Finnish. Reviewed pronunciation, introductions, and vegetables. (Not introducing vegetables, although I'm sure I'll confuse that later.) My materials: -Teach Yourself Finnish -Colloquial Finnish -Финский язык для начинающих -Финская грамматика в упражнениях -FSI Finnish I'll also be using various sites and podcasts. As for Russian, my materials are not quite as extensive. -5 элементов (this book is a level below mine, however I want to review the grammar and writing) -Podcasts (tasteofrussian.com) -As many books as I can. One concrete, relatively short-term goal that I have for Russian is to be an interpreter of sorts for my father while he's in Russia for a sporting event. The interpreters they have had in the past have tended to be rather choppy in English, or come across as rude. That's it for today. I'm going to watch a movie shortly, in Russian. I completed unit 2 of TY Finnish today.
Minä olen Jessica. Olen kanadalainen. Olen kotoisin Ottawasta Kanadasta. Asun nyt Venäjällä. Olen työssä täällä. Olen opettaja. Opetan englantia. Olen työssä kielikoulussa Pietarissa. Minä puhun englantia, ranskaa ja venäjää. Puhun vähän suomea. Minä opiskelin venäjää ylipistossa Kanadassa ja kielikoulussa Pietarissa. That's about all I can say about myself for now. All correct. Good job!
Take note, however, that the expression 'olen työssä', though perfectly logical, doesn't really exist outside of textbooks. What everyone uses, instead, is 'olen töissä' (that is, the inessive of the plural 'työt'). sans-serif: Kiitos! That's the first time I've ever written anything in Finnish, so I was quite proud of myself. From experience, textbooks tend to give you rather formal expressions, and I imagine I'll work those out as I get more exposure to the language and more practice. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

(Also written quite well) Джессика (я так предпочитаю). Как вам нравится (а не нарвится) Санкт Петербург (или просто Питер). Я хочу побывать там летом. (You would use "по" here, as it's a future action. I'm not sure how to explain it clearly, it's a future plan, so you'd need the prefixed version.) In English we say "in summer", but in Russian they use the instrumental case, hence летом. по-русски, here I believe it's an adverb, whereas русский is an adjective. So essentially, you're saying that I write in the Russian manner, hence it's an adverb. You're doing really well! It took me a week to figure out the alphabet when I first started, never mind trying to write anything. 3 persons have voted this message useful |
