Quick question guys - would anyone be interested in Skyping together as a team this
month? I recall there being some interest earlier this year. If no one has a particular
preference for a date, I'll just pick a Saturday and we can see who can make it. :-)

Alsooo...
February is the month of love! So, I thought it would be an appropriate time for us all to read some poetry. This month's challenge is to read one poem in Dutch and share it on the team thread. Gedichten.NL and 1001Gedichten.NL are good places to start. You can also check out a list of notable Dutch poets here.

Poems, wow!
That made me dig into the www a bit, to find out that Dutch and Germans share a tradition: the "poesiealbum". Not sure if this is now regarded to be outdated, but I had one at primary school (in the 80s), and I know it was also common among my mothers' friends (1940s/1950). It was a little book with a textile or leather binding and blank pages, with a little lock that basically made no sense but looked awesome. Little girls give it to people they like, asking them to write a little poem inside, sometimes accompanied by a nice picture. When given a poesiealbum by a friend, I felt both happiness (to belong to the "chosen ones") and horror, because you are meant to write in your nicest handwriting, no spelling mistakes etc. And my handwriting always was horrible.
Wikipedia says this is one of the poems usually written into Dutch poesiealbums:
Ik lag in mijn tuintje en sliep,
Toen was er een engel die riep:
"Suzie, je moet ontwaken,
Om een versje voor Hekje te maken."

I'd be interested, but Saturdays aren't going to work for me, generally speaking. It may be hard for me to find a
time that works anyhow, though.

Okay, is there a better day for you geoffw? I was thinking maybe weekend of the 21st - so it could be either that
Saturday the 21st, or Sunday the 22nd. What do people think?
Suzie - I'm completely trying to stifle my laughter here at work (and having a hard time of it). That's genius. I love it.
I remember those journals with the little locks, by the way - you're right, the locks make absolutely no sense, but
what a great thing to have on a book. x-D
Quick side note - the Netherlands just won all the Olympic medals for
skating in the 500m, and therefore sat at the top of the rankings this morning! Hoera Nederland! ;-)

If you're talking about February, the 21st is a Friday, not a Saturday.
I may be available that Sunday (2/23); the biggest possible issue is that I may already have another Skype session
going on that day. I may prove difficult to accommodate for setting up this and potential future Skype
conversations; I recognize that my schedule is never easy.

Ah yeah, of course, you're right. The 22nd or the 23rd then.
Do you have an idea of when your other Skype session may be? Perhaps we can pick a
convenient time. I'd like to include as many people as possible. :-)
