This is the signup thread for the Learning Based Challenge (first conceived of by
DaraghM), which will be taking place for the month of April. For some, it will be a
useful way to get ready for the Super Challenge. For others, it should just be a fun
and flexible challenge.
To sign up, just list you name and your learning goal(s). There will be no bot, but
you can track your progress in any way you find useful. The signup format should be
something like:
Your Name: _______________
Your Goal(s): __________________
Any comments about what you hope to gain from doing this challenge.
* Each participant decides on their own learning goal for the challenge. The only
goals not allowed are reading, watching or listening (because these are what the SC is
about).
* You can have more than one goal (e.g. learn 150 words, memorize 15 poems).
* You can mix languages if you want (e.g. learn 50 words each in English, Esperanto,
Sanskrit and Saami).
* There will be no ranking. You either finish or you don't.
* Try to make your goal challenging for you, without being impossible. Don't worry if
your goal isn't as impressive as someone else's.
So what sort of things can you set as goals? Here are some suggestions from the
discussion thread that got this going:
* learn 200/300/500 words
* study 150 sentences
* learn 25 conjugations
* learn x Kanji
* learn some grammar rule(s) (e.g. master the genetive case)
* learn x idioms
* study x poems intensively
* master x lessons of GLOSS/some textbook or other
* memorize x lines of poetry, or x dialogues
* have x conversations (of minimum y minutes)
* any other personal challenge you would prefer.
You'll notice that I've tried to make the suggestions measurable. Whatever goal you
set yourself for this challenge, it will be easier to say you've achieved it if it is
measurable.

I hope both of these goals will help me to get a good start in the Super Challenge. And I really want to finish the passive wave of Assimil NFWE because it sits there and accuses me of ignoring it!

Learn the 500 Italian words or so I listed from a children's book I read " la torre della papessa". I think it will
be a good prelude to the Super Challenge since I'm likely to come across those words more than once.

What a great idea! Thank you DaraghM for conceiving the idea, and thank you Jeffers for giving it life! I am
totally in!
Name: Solfrid Cristina
Goal: Go through all chapters of 'Teach Yourself Russian Grammar' about cases (Chapters 3-33) at least
once.
Working on the cases, which are my biggest struggle in Russian, before the Super Challenge starts, will
make it easier for me to understand the texts once I start reading.
Some of these chapters I have gone through already, some I have never done, but I will dedicate the month
of April to going through all of them.
@ Jeffers: Will you open a new thread where we can all report in and note our progress, or will this thread
turn into that once we start in April?
