Some questions and corrections about the Mezzofanti Table of languages
Which is the difference between Hebrew and Rabbinic Hebrew? Scottish Welsh Cornish and Irish are versions of the same Gaelic? Which is the difference between Ancient Armenian and Modern Armenian? There is only one kind of Classic Arabic, others are dialects (including Syrian, Egyptian and Maltese), and Berber is Not Arabic ! ! What is Moorish? There is a big difference between ancient (Romaic) and Modern Greek? The same difference like Italian and Latin? Sardinian and Friulano (not Friulese) are distinct languages Not dialect of Italian! Catalan (with his varieties of Valencian and Majorcan) is a language different from Spanish (Castellano) Not a dialect! Breton and Provencal are Not dialect of French .Gascon is the French word for Basque Flemish and Dutch are two varieties of the same language Nederlanden There isa difference between Albanian and Illyrian? I never heard about these languages, are you sure they had an alphabet during Mezzofanti's life, can someone explain something about them. Syriac Geez Amarinna Lettish Bimbarra,Walacchian Peguan Koddish Servian Angolese Chilian Mexican Peruvian Languages of Oceania: which one? All of them? What is Cochin Chinese?? As far I know Cochin is in Kerala Southern India where Malayam is spoken and some Hebrew because there is an old Jew community, Which Gipsy ? There are a lot of different languages spoken by Gipsies accordingly where they traveled.Quichua is maybe Quechua?Corhish is maybe Cornish?Delewere is maybe Delaware?Birmese is maybe Burmese?Tonquinese is maybe Vietnamese? Well the table comes from a book published in the late 19th century and uses language names of that period. People at that time called things differently than we do today. It is quite understandable if you are not familiar with those names.

Your answer fits for these questions:
Quichua is maybe Quechua?Corhish is maybe Cornish?Delewere is maybe Delaware?Birmese is maybe Burmese?Tonquinese is maybe Vietnamese? I understand that the book is of the late 19th century but thi site is the 21 century . It would be nice understand what really wrote and spoke this genius . Vilas, thank you for your post. For the details you need to look directly in the text of his biography. I think there is merit in trying to match each of these language to its modern equivalent and would be very interested if somebody could help me make an equivalence table. Thanks! Why is Hungarian and Magyar on that list? Magyar is just the Hungarian word for "Hungarian".

After I read this thread, I did a little research and I compiled a list of all the languages Mezzofanti was supposed to speak, together with their actual name and with notes where I thought necessary. I saved it on a .doc file.
