I was reading the description and I had the impression that it only added furigana to kanji if you were typing it in manually. I'll give that a try. |

Just make sure when you import your cards you put the expression with kanji in the field named Expression. Then in the card browser you go Edit > Bulk-add Readings

I found an add-on that would have saved me so much time a long time ago. I still l am happy to find it
although it's less useful now. It's called hinfo but it's really just RTK or Remembering the Kanji info. It
takes vocab from one field and spits out the RTK keywords into another field. It has a couple of other
options like adding the RTK index number to a field if you want that.
As I was jogging today it occurred to me that Anki has frequency information. It also occurred to me that
there might be an add on providing this info and spitting out into a field for me. There is. It's new though.
Here's what one guy had to say about it:
I can't tell you how many times it crossed my mind -- oh how I wished for the Rikai-sama to be able to
also have the ability to append frequency information. Oh how I thought about it and dreamed of it, and
though those dreams were often plagued by demons taunting me about how my past collection wouldn't
have that information, I held on to hope; I had faith in the coders! Now, that steadfast belief in the blessed
coders has paid off and we, all of us, have been granted not just the ability to have vocab frequency
appended to our new cards, no!! But also the ability to have our back catalogues automatically updated
with this righteous information. BLESSED BE THE CODER! I bow down to you, kind sir, for you have done a
righteous deed this day. Not once to be forgotten by me.
Makes you want to use it right? I was thinking as I was jogging that I could go reading stuff every day as
fast as possible and then just use an add on or such to provide a frequency number then sort the cards
using this.. and have them shown in order instead of random of course.. and then I'd automatically be
learning the more useful words sooner. It sounds so good I could just stop using Core6k altogether!
Too bad this add on isn't working for me at all. I followed the directions by the author and everything. I am
wondering if it just isn't Mac friendly. I posted in the add on forums so eventually I'll probably get a
response.

There are 197 pages in this log and I will eventually get through all of them! Hopefully
by the time I reach that number I'll be half decent at Japanese. Wishing you luck
Kraemder and letting you know I'm following closely!

I'm so frustrated with anki right now. I copied a deck to make a kanji writing deck which was a pain and now
it's broken my original deck somehow. All my hard work gone. I think the program is bugged. I will probably
send some screen shots and make a support ticket. I am so tempted to throw in the towel and give Anki the
boot. What a pain. Who would think a flashcard program could be this hard?

Well I got Anki fixed. I have invested too much time into Anki I think now to give up very easily unfortunately.
What a stressful evening.
Well, I like the kanji writing deck at least. I was looking for an RTK deck with Japanese keywords but there
isn't anything really good in my opinion like that although there are a few decks. What would be really
awesome is not just Japanese keywords but Japanese named primitives and Japanese stories. I'm not about
to take the time to do that though. I'm sticking with English since that's what's there and it's done pretty well
too.

This deck has Japanese keywords along with the English ones with the theory being that the farther you get into the language the less useful the English keyword
will be (at which point the Japanese word will become your trigger for that character instead):
LINK
I liked the idea of that, but I didn't end up using that deck myself since it is an RTK-based deck but with characters removed that he felt were "not important" (at
least early on). He has a post (see link below) listing which characters were dropped from this deck. Many of them aren't very high frequency characters, but the
fact that I recognized many of them made me question his choices in general. In fact, one of the characters on page 3 is even in the title of our TAC Team this year
(亜). If you are fine with the list of removed characters, though, you do at least get a Kanji deck with Japanese keywords that way.
