Hmm...can't say as I've ever heard of that before! I wonder if NFWE explains it some
other way? Either way, I just learned something, too.

(Whoops, corrected a typo)
But yeah, it's a pretty solid way to remember. I just looked it up and it seems like there are exceptions, but that's
practically a given in French.
The link below explains it pretty succinctly:
Adjectives Before the Noun

So it's precisely those 15, and none others, it appears? Odd, but certainly a small-scale
project to learn.

It's funny, you know, I'm doing two Assimils at once and so I can't help but compare. My conclusion: Assimil French is definitely way funnier than Assimil Indonesian.
Like, there's not even a contest. Every day it's like:
Assimil French: *Whoa ho ho, hilarious story about a diamond-eating rabbit*
Assimil Indonesian: "I would like to rent a bicycle or perhaps a scooter. Bicycles are
less dangerous than scooters but easier to steal. You can't have this scooter. I like
the helmet that goes with your scooter. But I cannot trade my helmet for your scooter.
Please remember to return my scooter." |

Ahahahaha I laughed remembering the diamond-eating rabbit story! =P
Indeed, Assimil French is very funny! Russian as well, maybe even more. Dutch was quite funny as well.

geoffw - Seems so! Odd indeed. Still a useful mnemonic, I think.
fabriciocarraro - Yes, for some reason that one really stuck! You guys are all having such a great time with your
Russian, makes me want to learn it. :-)

Als men mij
is
iet warm. -3 graden, -5, 0 gemiddeld elke dag 's winters is niets koud.
kouder dan New York.

It is true very few adjectives are concerned. By the way be careful with "beau" et "vieux" which turn into "bel"
and "vieil" before masculine nouns starting with a vowel sound:
- un vieil homme ( the h is mute)
- un bel immeuble
The place where you put the adjective "vieux" can have an incidence on the meaning of the sentence:
- du vin vieux = good wine which was aged in barrels
- du vieux vin = old wine from a bottle opened a long time before

is?
Small life update: I've been waiting to hear about a particular grant, and yesterday I
heard it didn't come through. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bummed. Still,
there are a few other opportunities coming up this year. I'll focus on them and keep my
chin up. :-)
