For 'The Metamorphosis,' there are two English translations listed. Both seem quite
close. Any opinions?

Robinson Crusoe: The English is very dated, the French seems to me to be not too bad.
Unless someone particularly wants this book, I will leave it for later.

I will start working on a few texts by Guy de Maupassant and Jules Verne next.

Also working on 'The Blind Owl' for Persian.

May I recommend "Michel Strogoff" by Jules Verne? It is overlooked a lot, but I find the
plot much more thrilling than his more well-known novels. There's more urgency to it, and
less pages filled with writings that have no other purpose than to be educational. I
really hated those in 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

Where should I send The Metamorphosis X Die Verwandlung to?

(I aligned both translations .DOCX or PDF)

Scripts are mostly ready now. I started aligning Pinocchio, but I realised the
translation by Carol Della Chiesa on Project Gutenberg isn't very faithful. Ercole
Guidi's translation is closer to the Italian.

I wonder if the Italian can be modernised (replacing old tenses and words) without
ruining it?

Please don't. Changes of this sort ruin texts as L-R material, unless they're for the L1 language, or you make a corresponding L2 recording.

Here's the raw output of the scripts for 'The Blockade Runners' (Jules Vernes)

The
Blockade Runners

The translation sometimes deviates a little from the French: the translation will
need some adapting to make a high-quality bilingual text, and the output cleaning up.
I imagine it will need about 15-20 hours work. Will there be any volunteers? If not, I
will find an alternative.

Thanks for the suggestion, Sprachprofi. I think the works of Karel Čapek would be for
Czech, too, if there are public domain translations. I've had a couple of requests for
materials for Norweign. Anyone have any recommendations?

For Pinocchio, I was thinking of organizing a re-recording, as the currently available
readings are of only average technical quality. Are the 'simple past' tenses still used
in Italian in childrens books, like in French? In standard Italian, they are less
common, but it depends on the region of Italy, as I understand.

I'm looking for parallel texts for Russian (for which i am a beginner), right now the only thing i've found is Anna Karenina, which i'm going to try L-Ring, but i don't know if it's too much to begin with. I started another parallel text of Boris Savinkov's "The Pale Horse", but the translation seems a bit loose and it's really slow going, especially since Hunalign doesn't seem to like Cyrillic characters. I've also started making a parallel text of Zola's "Paris", the first tome of which i already posted on the site.
