amazing log irrationale, I have been reading up on what resources I will be needing to learn Mandarin and when I stumbled across your post it really inspired me to try and put in as much effort as you have. I have one question though, when you said "I use only the reader and the audio CDs" what parts of NCPR is the "reader" exactly? workbook, textbook, instructors manual?

Thanks for your kind words...I'm really glad I could be of help.

The "reader" is just the textbook. That's it. There is also a workbook, but it is pretty worthless. I never did the exercises in the reader either. PM me if you have any more questions.

Yep I found it inspirational too. My progress has been slow with mandarin. I've been through pimsleur 1-90, and almost through NPCR 2, but i can't find a way to access the vocab I have learnt to use it in conversation. I'm going to use anki now, hopefully it will help.

Irrationale, you're a smart guy, and best of luck to in your future endeavours.

HSK 5 in less than two years of study?! Oh man, you are an animal, irrationale. Amazing.

Today is Mandarin day 1 for me (well to be honest I took a 2 week intensive course, but that was pretty useless). Thank you for the inspiration!

I read this log twice already and will be sure to come back to it from time to time. I just want to congratulate you irrationale for your dedication and performance.

Will be starting my journey with Mandarin tomorrow and you've been a key factor in my deciding to take it sooner than later.

Please keep us updated on your progress and continue to share your fruits of wisdom with those struggling to get where you are now.

Wow! Thank you for this log. Amazing. Motivates me.

I learned Spanish for a while, but I really am just keeping it at a maintenence level.
I just started learning Mandarin not too long ago.

This is very motivating. Can't believe you passed the HSK5 test!

Congrats!

Thanks for the Log, very interesting read. I've been learning so far for about 5 months. i've gone through FSI mods
1-3 twice and i've listened to the pimsleur mod 1 (1-30) twice and i've completed the rosetta stone mod 1 once. I
still have a lot to learn but i've already learnt french and I've read that your second language you learn is easier to
learn. You've given me confidence to go on.
