How valuable would it be to shadow an entire novel at an intermediate level?

I am at a low B2-ish level and am trying to find more ways to improve and have thought about simply shadowing a lengthy novel I like. I have tried it out a bit and I'd likely need to slow down the audio a bit. Would it be helpful or would I be better off just spending the time reading and watching TV in Spanish?

I don't see why it would be less useful than only listening to the audiobook, and I
usually spend a lot of time on those at the intermediate level. Try it and report back
to us, would be interesting to see your results.

Did you have any particular novel in mind, and is it rich in dialogue?

Or is it more descriptive?

I am thinking of shadowing Atlas Shrugged. The issue is that the regular audio is 60 hours and I would probably have to play it at 50% speed in order to shadow it and properly pronounce the words. That means it would be about 120 hours of audio. I only have about 40-60 minutes a day to dedicate to Spanish so 120 hours would be a four month committment.

Maybe try doing it for a week or two and see if you feel like doing the same thing for 4 months is good use of your time. That might clarify things a bit :-) I'm sure you'll have a clearer idea of whether it's beneficial for you.

(I thought you were supposed to shadow at full speed though...)

One of the benefits I find from shadowing is that it helps me to focus on the story.

Shadowing always helps me will prosody and oral fluidity. But I think it really only works at full speed...
