now you shouldn't need to change encoding
我现在开一个中 文的Thread.好象这个 网站有很多人学 中文. 希望我们可以用 中文讨论关于学 中文的问题. 我现在在用那个"Sta ndard Chinese: a modular approach". 那门课好象很有 用. 只有一个问题. 那些课本里面没 有汉字, 所以我的对汉字 的了解不太大. 你们觉得学中文 的时候, 最大的挑战是什 么? 我以前觉得是中 文的四声, 我现在觉得词汇 是最大的问题. 我的词汇太小了. 我希望把standard Chinese学好以后能知 道2000多个词. 可是那也不够. 我不知道standard Chinese以后会用什么 材料学习中文的. 好, 希望有别的人想 用中文讨 论一下 Edited by maxb on 07 August 2005 at 3:30pm 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Excuse me, but is this really a language? If so, which one is it supposed to be? Am I missing something here or is there a problem with the symbols?

Yeah. you have to set the encoding in your browser to "chinese simplified (GB2312). Then you should see some characters.

Oh, right. Sorry I didn't know that. Thanks Maxb. How do I go about setting my browser, then? I'm using Microsoft Office XP, if this information is useful to you Apologies for my being totally non-technical. :-(

It is totally alright. I didn't know how to either before I started learning chinese :-). In Internet Explorer you go to the "View" menu. Then choose encoding->more->"Chinese simplified (GB2312)" I think those are the names in english. I am not sure because my Internet explorer at home has Swedish menus. I am sorry for forcing people to change encoding, but some characters became very strange before I changed the encoding. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

. . . but will i be able to change my encoding back to central European? Am I central European DOS or ISO? Please advise.

Perhaps this should be split, as not to clutter a thread... In my opinion, a chinese thread should be in chinese.

Well, I agree that a chinese thread should be in Chinese but until I can encode the above it is obviously not in Chinese. I don't know Chinese - I was just wondering if my pc was off kilter, that's all. 1 person has voted this message useful |
