I am not sure why anyone would want to learn polish? I would think that Russian would be the logical first Slavic language to master and then to learn other Slavic languages. As in the case of Romance languages, Spanish is the most logical one to start with.

Yes, but if you live and work in Warsaw and you are married to a Pole it seems more logical to begin with Polish. ;-) - actually, I don't think it matters which slavic language you begin with. Going from Polish to Russian is no different than going from Russian to Polish, right?

You have to start from where you are.

There seems to be a bit of interest in Polish on this site. I wonder if the administrator would allow us to set up a Polish thread where we could practice our Polish. No so much a problem for me as I live in Warsaw, but for people who are trying to learn Polish in their own country they may welcome the contact with the lanaguage - albeit in a written form only. What do we think about this?

Good luck with trying to learn Polish. Your knowledge of Russian should give you a good grounding in this language. In fact, Polish will probably be easier because it uses the Roman alphabet.

I've just started a Polish thread in the Practical Study Questions room. It seems to be a little slow off the ground but it should soon pick up speed. Hopefully, there will be some interesting words and phrases for you to learn.

If you have any questions about Polish please don't hesitate to ask.
