Is Greek going to be your language for the fall Assimil challenge? That's a exciting new one! You've definitely got an interesting array of languages going right now... German and French is still my main languages. Greek and Vietnamese is more like a little hobby :-) Vietnamese Had my first lesson after the summerbreak. Not bad at all, I remembered most of it. The main hurdle is pronounciation. The teacher gave me some example of the different pronounciation between north- and south-vietnamese dialect. Not so big difference after all. The teacher said that people with English background find it easier to pronounciate the north vietnamese dialect. So maybe the difference is like between US English and UK English? Makes me wonder why I spent so much time trying to get Vietnamese course with southern Vietnamese dialect. Most probably I will end up speaking Vietnamese with a nice accent of Norwegian :-) So maybe I could use the Assimil Vietnamese Course after all. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Assimil German With Ease, express variant plus shadowing Lesson 53 passive wave, lesson 3 active wave French Assimil French With Ease, normal Assimil method Lesson 15 passive wave Greek Still struggling with the Greek alphabet. Luckily the Assimil Greek course comes with mp3-files. There are one mp3-file for each sentence (line number). So I can take it line by line. If I have to, I will learn the Greek alphabet by brute force. The goal is of course instant recognition when reading. Vietnamese Been a bad boy, not doing my homework :-) My version of the Assimil method :-) version 0.1 Passive wave: 1. Listen to the audio 2. Listen to the audio and locking at L1 text 3. Listen to the audio and "scanning" both L2 text and L1 text 4. Listen to the audio and reading primarily L2 text 5. Reading notes while the tapes still going 6. Read out loud from the text with the audio Repeat and change the order of the steps as needed. Active wave: 1. Listen to the audio once. 2. Listen to the audio and reading L2 text once 3. Translate from L1 to L2 by writing out the sentences by hand. 4. Repeat step 3 for sentences (line number) you got wrong. Extra: Shadowing For me it is not enought with reading out load. I need more practice. According to Chung's definition, I will be doing only passive shadowing :-) Flashcards I think I will follow the advice from emk's log: mostly making flashcards of notes and review lesson. I'm laying a bit behind due to administrative tasks regarding language study :-)
And my son was on leave from the army and visiting me. GERMAN LWT I waisted a lot of hour to get LWT up and running. First I tried Mamp. Working on one computer, but not on the computer I wanted to have it on. So I tried XAMPP. Happy days are here! :-) Working good, running as a local server. And I can connect to it from other computers on the local netverk. I also have Mac OS X server, but I don't have the knowledge to set up the LWT on this server. With Mac OS X server there is the ability to connect via internet to LWT. That would be nice. But for know I'm quite happy. So now I have to fill it up with German text and audio Anki 2 Looking nice and I'm collecting all my German vocabulary into it. However I have to wait for Anki ios v2 before I'm able to syncronise between computer and iPhone. Webradio and airplay Testing out webradio and airplay on Mac. Want to know how this is working. Just another week not so productive. But I'm over the cold now.
Anki 2 I'm a basic user and know I have learned what I need to know. Forward, backward, adding audio and images, and Cloze deletion. I have transferred most of my vocabulary to Anki 2 and now use it on daily basis. Still use Mental Case (Mac) for some small vocabulary collections. LWT Finished added German text and audio. Log September 2012
Not a good month regarding productive activities. And I will have a more busy life now. Therefore I'm thinking of dropping Vietnamese and Greek. I got a nasty cold that hindered language studying for a while. And got sidetracked with Anki 2 and LWT. But now it's a new month and I'm enjoying the language study again. End of log With the limited knowlegde I have of Anki 2 and Mental Case (Mac). I find Mental Case better for drilling and Anki 2 better for maintaining vocabulary. Finished adding words in LWT of the first text. Took some time, but now I'm ready to test out and see if LWT if something for me. 1 person has voted this message useful |
