Benvinguts!
Just thought I'd start a thread for the small Catalan TAC 12' team, can we tempt anyone else? Catalan is a beautiful
language, with a wonderfully different past tense and some interesting conjugations, so why not learn it here with
us?

A bit like French, a bit like Spanish, Catalan has its own interesting history which saw it develop from Latin in the
early 10th and 11th centuries. Spoken mostly in Catalonia, and very strongly outside the main metropole of
Barcelona, Catalan has gone through not one, but two resurgences. Firstly in the high-culture Renaixença in the
middle-to-late 19th century and then again in the 1970's and 1980's and up to the present day (after the fall of
Franco). It has a burgeoning cultural output, ranging from novels to films to theatre productions and many quality
newspapers. What else is there to say?

Espero aprendre molt català aquest any, i desij tenir un nivell com B1 o B2 abans del fin d'any. Vaig a llegir molt,
anar a les meves classes i també parlar amb tothom que pugui!

I don't have the time to TAC, but I could join you all for a couple weeks at the
beginning of the challenge. I've actually registered at parla.cat for their free online
course, but haven't started yet.

edit: For the record, I just tried a sample lesson on the parla.cat website. And hated
it. It reminded me of those high school text books that try too hard to be cool, though
this one was animated.

Thank you for starting this thread! Should we try to come up with a team name?

kanewai -- I, for one, would love it if you joined us, even for a short time. We have so few people here who want to learn Catalan, I think the more the merrier! Why do you want to study it?

If you don't like parla.cat, here are some other online options:

http://www.intercat.cat/speakcat/
http://www.elizabethcastro.com/personal/learncatalan.html
http://ice.uab.cat/fontdelcat/
http://www.parlacatala.org/ -- for exchanges

I can't personally vouch for them, though, as I haven't used them.

Yeah, join us for a few days, a few weeks, whatever you like. Although this thread contains the TAC Catalan it
would be brilliant if we could just be open for all Catalan speakers and learners of whatever capacity =) Anem
anem!

And about the team name? I'm happy with it just being TAC Catalan, but if you're willing to come up with a
beautiful catchy name then I'm all for it.

Thanks for starting this thread, Alexander86!

I haven't used parla.cat enough yet to form an opinion on, but I really like the textbook Veus (we're using it in my university course). It's definitely got a sense of humor and makes use of texts that teach you cool stuff about geography and culture related to the language. Unfortunately I think it's rather hard to get hold of, outside of Spain – but this is my vote for it anyway. :)

I'll be spending a week at the end of March in Barcelona. I'd like to be at least
familiar with Catalan for the trip, and be able to pronounce words somewhat respectably.
