I've been visiting Germany for the last couple of days. So far my experience has been whenever I speak German to someone, they reply back in German. I have even been helping out by translating for fellow vacationers from Spain whose German and English were not strong. This is in Münster and Hamburg. Berlin has a lot of American and British visitors, so if you are at the touristy parts, you may get more English.

Have fun! Germany is great.

Yeah, I've seen it a lot online too, hence I thought it had lost its "taboo effect".
However, I should have taken into consideration that HTLAL attracts a wider range of age
groups than most other websites I use to regularly browse.

I'm really looking forward to it. Perhaps I should start packing soon. :p

So yeah, I've been here for a couple of days..

I have been busy with classes, events and so on. It surprises me that there are loads
of people who don't speak English at all; even the waitress at the Italian restaurant
on the other side of the street from the school. :P
No German has ever insisted on speaking English yet, which is a good thing. :)

I have a mix between B1 and B2 classes; the lady who interviewed me on the placement
test said I was suited for the B2 classes, but I thought my level were closer to B1;
thus I have 2x 90 min B2 classes and one 90 min B1 class -- I think I can trust the
Germans getting the paperwork right, so it must be intentional. :P
The B1 classes are a bit boring because I can understad German much better than I can
speak it, but luckily there is virtually no English spoken in the classes, which is
fantasistc in my opinion. :)

Yesterday we has a "stammtisch" (German for "regular's table") where we met other
students and spoke for hours to each other in broken German (B1,B2,C1), which was very
fun. :)

I'm sorry if this post is a bit incoherent; it's late in the night and I have a few
Berliner Pilsner in the system... and some anki reviews that I've been postponing :)

Yesterday, someone broke into the place I live at and took my.computer and my suitcase.... so I can't really
write much here before I get back to Norway again.. The "good" part about it was that the Policeman who came
over didn't really speak English that well so I had to use my rusty German. But hey, I won't let that ruin my trip :)

Today I went to a school trip with GLS to Dresden. Apart from the heat and the Klimaanlage that refused to work
on the bus trip back to Berlin, the trip was great; Dresden is a quite beautiful city, especially die Altstadt. The
guide had to speak in (d)English, sadly, because there werd only 3 of us who could understand German well
enough.

I'm typing this on my "handy" so please excuse my typos ;)

I update all the time on my handy. But omg that sucks that you were robbed. Now I
feel bad that I encouraged you to go. I guess they just filed a report and that was
the end of the investigation. Glad you seem to still be enjoying the trip.

They were going to hand over the case to a team that focuses on burglaries. I dont expect to get my laptop back
really... At least it looked like he was doing a lot of paperwork...

You were robbed? That's awful. Was the place (your residency) organized by GLS? Maybe they can help.
