I totally hear ya :P I love the Naruto anime, but I just can't stomach the girl :D Seriously, though, I'll look for a Sakura proverb. I think it should be easy, since it's such an important blossom in Japanese culture. I remember hearing a lot of expressions on spring, Sakura blooming, and love being in the air :) I'll look, though, for something more fitting for the team spirit :D 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Same here, so never mind. Actually I think I'll feel more at ease speaking English to other non-natives -- for us, even speaking English IS language practice, after all ;) Anyway, I wanted to comment on the voice vs video, etc. chat thing. I don't think it's better to do this or that -- there's a process and some logic behind it: video is rather inconvenient most of the time, but speaking 'on the phone' is usually a bit awkward, except maybe with people you know well enough. I think it's better to do some '1 on 1' preliminary meetings first (free with Skype) so we get to know each other a bit, just well enough to feel how the other person moves and reacts in conversation, and be able to predict (within some margins) when [s]he wants to speak / is about to interrupt, etc. Once we're somewhere along there, we should have less problems doing n-way audio chat so everyone can be in their pajamas and such. BTW it was hard enough to get me to install and use Skype. Anything requiring to get an Android machine is a no-no for me; I don't have nor do I want smartphones or close cousins around. Edit: BTW(2) - I am at a complete loss with written Japanese. I can only read the kanas, and that with difficulties. I'm not very good at spoken Japanese, but certainly better. Well I'm happy to speak to almost anyone, even in bad Japanese if necessary, on Skype. I've had enough awkward Skype language exchanges now that I'm fairly used to it. And just trying to get some inconsequential language practice with people you've never met is actually not such a big deal as trying to actually get some important task or other completed through a phone call.
My ID should be on my profile if any of my team mates wants to add me (and if not, you can PM me for it!) I generally prefer voicechat over video simply because of bandwidth issues. My connection is big and stable enough that I don't normally have problems with voice, but it occasionally falls over if I use the webcam as well. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

Two very useful resources for drama subtitles and transcripts: 1. D-Addicts Has Japanese and English subs for drama, as well as subs in many other languages. 2. Dramanote Has drama scripts, so it includes both the lines and descriptions of what is happening in the scene. Site is in Japanese. I haven't been able to write anything for lack of time for the last few days but have
been following what was going on. First of all, loving the team name, loving (even more) the song (I've been listening to it over and over), and loving the Idea of a proverb too. Concerning that, I actually found what I find to be a nice one : 三日見ぬ間の桜 (みっかみぬあいだのさくら）。For the meaning : here it is in Japanese (not written by me but anyway, and i'll post at the end of that post sort of a description in English) : たった三日間見ない間に、つぼみであった桜 は満開になってしま い、満開の桜は散ってしまう。 物事の状態がわずかな間にどんどん変化する 。また、この世の は かないことをいう。 (私が そのことわざが 好きって理由は 短い間で、 いっぱい変われる から、 私たちは一年間一生懸命勉強したらドンだけ 変わ れるのかな～） Here is a website to get movies and such in Japanese subtitled in Japanese (and chinese too actually). Sorry for my intro being a bit long. Finally, here would be an explication of the Proverb I gave already : it's about the fact that someone went to se a sakura when it had its flower buds and three days later, the sakura has been in full bloom and then the the leaves fell. It means that things can change drastically. I like this proverb because since some things can change rapidly in three days, how would it be after a full year of study? :) PS : I just realised the proverb could also have a bad meaning...but i'll focus on the bright side! Click on microtag -> trash-icon-next-to-English for getting rid of the English microtag.
