This forum is claiming all my time!

Tell me about it. My husband is considering filing for divorce, citing infidelity with the forum as the main
cause :-)

LOL, my own husband hasn't understood what's happening yet, but I'll let him gradually get the message!

By the way, I've asked to join a russian team, so this french log may suffer a russian transformation!

The Russian team is closed but you could try asking Slavic/Romance “Nebun”. That would cover both the French and the Russian. Just let me know on the sign-up thread if you join, OK?

Yes, I will be joining the Nebun team, with great pleasure. This means I can fit in my french challenge, but it will be slow and somewhat irregular. But that's ok.

So, my main focus will be German and russian.

Let me share with you some of my past with the russian language.

My main foreign language was English. At the age of 10 I asked to learn french, and my parents got me a tutor.

When I entered the university, I found out that as a student I could learn any language I wanted for very little money. Most of my friends went for Italian, Spanish, french, German, even arabic. Everybody spoke English. A few of us chose russian. It was a very easy decision, because I was always attracted to that country, mainly through its litterature and poetry.

My first course was русский язык для всех, but for several reasons I never finished that year. I stopped the course because my schedule was too much. But the love remained. Since then I have been studying on and off, collected more and more material, but never got past beginner.

What I really learned was the alphabet and the cursive, because I was taught by a (native by the way) teacher, and she paid a lot of attention to it. So that is one obstacle I don't have.

I love handwriting in russian, it's one of the pleasures of this language. I can't wait to read Pushkin in the original (ambitious, нет? )

There seems to be some real work going on here, so I'm in good company!

I have already started with русский язык для всех, the preliminary courses, and I will continue with that. I will also choose an audio course to practice conversation.

Following the same path for German, and saving some time   for french, I ask myself where I will find all the hours!

Bonne chance, renaissancemedi!

My knowledge of Russian is nil and it's not on my list for this year, but I'm starting to think it should be. Regardless,
I'll be following your log to lend support and to get inspiration for my French studies too.

Last night I stayed up to watch the Red Army Alexandrov Group on tv, on a concert they gave in Greece sometime ago. I focused on the words of the songs, and even got some of them! Very nice. Talk about a coincidence, as I decide to start russian again, to watch that on tv.
