From Best language course for Portuguese?:

The material used in the university course I'm taking right now is "Portugues XXI" by Ana Tavares, volume 1 consists of a textbook+CD (approximately 1 hour) and a book filled with exercises (each book can be bought separately). ISBN 978-972-757-541-1.
It's my first serious attempt at Portuguese and so far, I really like the material. Everything is in Portuguese. Instructions, grammar explanations etc. There is a multilingual dictionary at the end of the textbook (Portuguese->German/English/Spanish/French), which I however haven't been using that much (since I know Spanish). |

If you're comfortable using German-based resources, they are your best bet, I would say.

Just starting A2 German now. I will complete B1, and then I hope I can read the German
text in the Portuguese Assimil course. I will also have access to native Portuguese
speakers in case I need some clarification.

Using English as a base, you could try Ponto de Encontro. It is a textbook used in college classes in the US with a main focus on Portugal but also showing Brazilian variants. It has a stiff price new on Amazon but used copies may be found. There are two versions available. The older version has a CD package available to go along with the book and the new 2012 version has a DVD rom to be purchased separately. Ebay and abe books are also purchase options.

Here is a very interesting textbook written in German that teaches you Portuguese while relying on your knowledge of Spanish:
Kontrastsprache Portugiesisch
There are also audio files (in continental Portuguese) online for the first part of the book.
