Perhaps you should consider taking part in the new Super Challenge starting in May? Basically the challenge is to do a lot of reading and tv/movie watching over a 20 month period. Mit Top Thema Mit Vokabeln habe ich viel gelernt. Manchmal muss man entscheiden zwischen Wortschatz, Grammatik, oder Zuhören. Ich habe oft gedacht, dass es zu langweilig ist, nur Wortschatz zu lernen, so habe ich nur zu Podcasts zugehört, oder Filme angeschaut. Ich finde es toll, dass du schon Hörbücher zuhörst!

When I started with German, I pretty much daily watched Logo, a short, 10 min or so news broadcast targeted to kids. It was great because it discussed topics in the news, but in a simplified format, and they usually have a segment that explains how something works, like the banking system and they explain what the words are and what they mean. You can subscribe to it and have it sent to your Handy. Here is the site if it sounds interesting to you. Click on Schaut euch hier die letzte Logo Sendung an when you get there. I corrected your text for you. I thought it was a good effort, but there are some things I'd like to explain to you: The word order in main clauses is S-V-O, so you can't say: "Entdeckte ich..." or "Abonnierte ich...". The verb can only precede the subject, if another word or expression comes before the verb: "Morgen stehe ich um sechs Uhr auf." In subordinate clauses, the word order is S-O-V, so you can't say: "... seit habe ich ein Update geschrieben". The conjugated verb comes at the end of a subordinate clause: "... seit ich ein Update geschrieben habe". "Zu Hause" means "at home". "Home" like in "to go/drive home" is "nach Hause". The regular tense for reporting past events is Perfekt - unlike in English! So, the usual way for saying "I subscribed to a podcast" or "I discovered the books" would be "Ich habe einen Podcast abonniert" and "Ich habe die Bücher entdeckt". "To understand" is "verstehen". "Verstanden" is either past tense or the past participle ("understood"). If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me! By the way, the name of your log doesn't sound like idiomatic German to me. I think it would be better to say "Das Geheimnis des Deutschen" or "Das Geheimnis der deutschen Sprache". Thank a milli for the corrections! I made a bunch of mistakes I should know better than to make. Why is it that the Genitive is used instead of Dativ? I was under the impression that the Dativ can indicate possession that the Genitive is rarely used except for of course with mein, dein, etc. and Genitive preps. Well, in this case I think it's just what sounds right. While it's true that "von" + dative can often replace the genitive in colloquial language, the genitive is still standard in writing. Moreover, you simply can't say "das Geheimnis von Deutsch" because "Deutsch" isn't a proper name. The names of languages are a little bit peculiar in German because they have to be declined. For example, you can't say: "Ich übersetze das in Deutsch". Instead, you have to use the article and add an ending: "Ich übersetze das ins Deutsche". Of course, there is "etwas auf Deutsch sagen", but that's kind of special. If you were determined to use "von" in the name of your log, you would have to say: "Das Geheimnis vom Deutschen", but that would still sound weird. In fixed expressions like this one, the genitive simply sounds right and it's what everyone would use. 2 persons have voted this message useful |
