Я уже около пяти лет изучаю русский язык, и я надеюсь, что в этом году я смогу разговаривать по-русски хорошо.

Any tips on building vocabulary in the early stages? I'm still working through Assimil Russian and reading New
Penguin or websites (i.e Master Russian) to try to learn basic grammar.

But beyond that I can't do much since I don't recognize most words. Tried to read The Little Prince in Russian
but too many unknown words.

Guess I'm just trying to think of other things to do to progress beyond 1 Assimil lesson and re-reading case
explanations per day.

Привет всем!

По-моему большинство команды меня уже знает, но всё-таки расскажу всё снова. ))
Меня зовут Фабрисио, мне 26 лет, я бразилец и живу в Сан-Паулу. Я инженер, но работаю программистом уже несколько лет.

Я только что вернулся из России и поездка была очень хорошая! Я познакомился с многими русскими, разговаривал всегда на русском, но хочу ещё улучшить свой уровень.

Я, так же как и все вы, любллю изучать языки и надеюсь, что в этом году мы все вместе сможем сказать: у нас получилось! ))

Hi Fiyero, building vocabulary has been one of the things I have struggled with the most in Russian - you get so little for free compared to Germanic or Romance languages. I don't know how far you are in the Assimil course, but you'll certainly accumulate a lot of useful vocabulary once you get beyond lessons 40-50.

However, you might consider doing something in addition to Assimil. When I was a "false" beginner two years ago I used Assimil in parallel with Colloquial Russian, by Routledge. It is a much more traditional, grammar-based method, but it is quite "vocabulary-heavy", so you get a lot of new words in each of the 15 lessons. I think I got a lot out of it, which made me ready to jump to native material on websites etc. The Colloquial book also treats more "serious" themes, which introduce you to vocabulary in areas like education, the health system, media, theatre etc. If you go for Colloquial, I wouldn't bother with the audio though, it has a lot of English spoken by a lady with an obnoxious accent. Just go for the book.

I have just started learning Russian a couple of months ago (October 2014) and would like to join the team for a hopefully productive year 2015.

Here is my log. Since I'm new to the topic of TAC and Language Logs there might be some chaos (sorry) and suggestions for improvements are always very welcome!

Всем добрый день! Меня зовут Джессика. Я канадка, но я живу и работаю в России.

Я хотела всё это написать неделю назад, но я просто не успела из-за проблем на работе.
Даже выспаться не успела. Много преподавателей уехали из-за кризиса, и как директор,
мне пришлось заменить каждого на занятиях.

Каждый год я говорю, что в этом году, я стану хорошей студенткой и выучу русский.
Каждый год, мои бедные учебники лежат на полках, пылящиеся. Я хожу в библиотеку
каждую вторую неледю и беру книги на русском. Я их читаю без больших проблем, хотя не
знаю все слова.

Возможно этот год будет мой последний в России. Я люблю свою работу, но проблема в
Деньгах. Мы с моим любимым человеком подали на иммиграцию в Канаду (для него, а не для
меня), и надеемся что получим визу до мая. Посмотрим.

Я люблю языки и их любила с детства. Я первый раз видела русский на телевизоре, на
игре между СССР и Канадой. Думала "странно, у Буре К а не С. И что за Си-Си-Си-Пи?"

Несколько лет спустя, я нашла учебник русского языка в библиотеке. Мне было 11 или 12
лет. Никаких успехов не было. В университете я старалась ещё раз, и у меня получилось,
хотя немного. Я ездила в Питер на год. Я влюбилась.

В этом году буду читать много книг. Я стараюсь больше говорить, но времени нет. Также
изучаю финский, а тут точно нет движения вперёд.

Что ещё? Я хоккеистка но я не играю с сентября. Получила травму коленного сустава и
для полного счастья, нашли тромбоз в ноге. Надеюсь играть летом.
