Welcome to the log of the Spanish team for TAC 2015.

Our goal sounds simple, we just need to keep going from now until the end of the year
2015. Over the obstacles, our time eaters, procrastination or wanderlust temptations,
any plateau or steep climb on the road, anything. So, let's start!

One of the funny things about learning Spanish is that some of the obstacles we face
are exactly the opposites of those of learners of many other languages, don't you
think?
-monoglots around say: "Spanish is so easy, why is it taking you so much time" while
we struggle with the trickier points of grammar, creative uses of subjunctvies and an
amount of false friends
-we find resources anywhere we look. There are so many we may have hard time to choose
in order not to spread ourselves too thin

From the experince in previous logs of Spanish learners, including ours, there is a
whole ocean of friendly natives, awesome books and movies, great travelling options
and resources of the highest quality. Let's take a swim :-)

So, enough of attempts to create some fun or well meant pathos in the thread. Here
comes our list of heroes (with links to logs added as soon as possible):

Some practical notes:

Our first and traditional task: Let's pick a name. Suggestions?

Second: There is going to be a list of resources in the next post. Your contributions
in this thread more than welcome, it would be hard to compile the list directly from
logs.

///edit, a side note: I am slowly adding the logs here, sorry about the weird format,
no idea why it looks this way, but the links worked when I tried them.

¡Hola Cavesa!

Thanks for getting us started. I'm glad that you'll be our team leader this year!

Here's my TAC15 log.

I'd say that I'm currently at a high intermediate level in Spanish. I can read young adult novels without much
difficulty - and 2015 is the year in which I'll tackle Real Books for Grown-Ups. I can follow TV shows, although I
don't catch every single word. I can carry on a conversation in Spanish for an hour plus without using any English.
Lots of mistakes - yes. But no English. ;)

Last year, I was part of team Lobo. I still like that name. It has a nice ring to it, and I like that wolves are
individuals who rely on the pack for support.

I also like Rana (Frog).

I can't help but gravitate towards animal names, probably because I've spent most of my adult life teaching little
kids. Ha! I don't really care what our name is though...I'm happy with pretty much anything.

I'm happy to be a part of this team and I look forward to working with all of you!

re: resources, would you like us to post them here, or PM them directly to you so that you can add them to the
resources section?

¡Hola compañeros!

I was just updating my log, and I thought that I'd share some free resources that I've used and enjoyed!

resources for absolute beginners

Language Transfer: Michel Thomas-esque course for beginners
Mi Vida Loca: interactive video mystery from the BBC
Duolingo: gamified language-learning, good supplement
Destinos: introductory course in telenovela form - cheesy, but it works!

resources for high beginner and intermediate learners

italki: good source of language partners and native text corrections
Notes in Spanish: podcast (int/adv are excellent and in Spanish only)
Veinte Mundos: magazine-style site with full audio and mouseover translation
FSI Basic Spanish: comprehensive (if dated) course with drills and dialogues
BBC Mundo: articles in Spanish from the BBC, lots of them short/accessible
Extr@: silly comedy for Spanish learners, complete with laugh track

native resources for intermediate and advanced learners

TV shows (most of these are from Spain, because I've mainly been learning Castillian Spanish):
Aquí no hay quien viva (YT): funny comedy set in an apartment complex
El internado (YT): creepy and addictive show set in a boarding school
Los Simpsons: dubbed cartoon (Latin America)
DramaFever Latino: Spanish TV shows with removable English subtitles
some shows on DramaFever that I've enjoyed:
* Frágiles: dramedy about an unconventional physiotherapist
* Isabel: historical drama about Queen Isabel
* Desaparecida: crime drama about a missing teenager
* El tiempo entre costuras: historical drama set during the Spanish Civil War

podcasts
Democracy Now: a bit dry and very fast, but full transcripts are available.
Definitely has a certain political slant which may or may not be to your liking. (USA)
Amnistía Internacional: full transcript, good speed, interesting - but again,
comes from a certain political stance. (Spain)
Buenos días América: daily half-hour news show (USA)
Fallo de sistema: weekly hour-long "geek culture" show (Spain)
Nómadas: weekly hour-long travel show (Spain)
Futuro abierto: weekly hour-long show debating social issues (Spain)
Radio ambulante: intermittent show telling Latin American stories (USA)

Hi all,

I would class myself as at an intermediate level but have probably not pushed myself as much in the past as i should
have to get the best results. Looking forwards to a good year with you all.

¡Hola a vosotr@s, buenas! Sorry to bother, but where can all of the temporadas for El
tiempo entre costuras be found? I became addicted to the series recently, but I cannot
seem to find most of the episodes. ¡Gracias y suerte con los estudios!
