Audio to "Colloquial" series books | ||

It appears that Routledge has made the audio to its "Colloquial" series of language textbooks available online for free download:
http://www.routledgetextbooks.com/textbooks/colloquial/defau lt.php#languages I didn't see audio for all of their books (such as for the Egyptian and Gulf Arabic books), but it does seem to be available for most of them. Comments I've seen on Amazon have suggested that people have been confused in some cases as to whether the audio came with the books or had to be ordered separately, so this strikes me as a very helpful move to make things easier for users. It would be nice if other companies (Assimil, are you listening?) would do the same thing... 20 persons have voted this message useful | |||

Excellent. In my view, the Colloquial series has the best introduction to the sounds of
a language. Even if one doesn't buy the book, spending a few hours with the sounds of the language section in a Colloquial course pays off more than most. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

As someone who has never used a Colloquial course before (I have the Welsh course sitting on my shelf,
but it's not a priority at the moment), I wonder could people who HAVE used them comment briefly on how they found them? Which colloquial courses did you enjoy? Would you recommend them to people here? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

The available audio is for the newest editions in the series. With experience I'd go with Colloquial Czech and Colloquial Slovak, whose audio is downloadable on the site. The new edition of Colloquial Slovene by Pirnat-Greenberg is on my shelf and a big improvement over the old edition by Albretti although I haven't used the new edition yet. I've used the old edition of Colloquial Hungarian by Payne which was sold with cassettes and prefer it to the new edition by Solyom and Rounds.
