I knew a German-Japanese kid who was doing a year of highschool in china. He spoke perfect German/Japanese/English. I heard him speaking French to a french Canadian once, though he claimed his french wasn't fluent. He learned Chinese pretty well within the one year he was there.

Hello. I'm 16 and I am a diglot. I can speak Korean (native) and English fluently. My German isn't too bad, and I think by reading things and using flashcards, it should reach fluency in a couple of years. I'm also learning Mandarin and Sinhala. My Mandarin is considerably better than Sinhala as I only recently began the latter. Since I'm in Sri Lanka right now, I think a couple of years of study would take me upto at least the "conversational" level. So hopefully, before I become 20, I'd be fluent in around 4 languages. (I wish..)
Right now, I just wish my wanderlust just goes off completely, because even though I know I should be focusing on the ones I'm learning (and yes, I know 3 at a time is already too many), I keep reading about other languages like Italian and Spanish. :(

Well, I´m also under 18, but I don´t call myself a polyglot (I´m far from that!!:-((( ), although I firmly believe you can learn many languages in this age. Little kids especially.
(However, I was just shocked to read a forum where mum-to-bes and mums with babies discuss super methods to make their kids polyglots by showing them foreign videos etc. But the parents are all speakers of one language!!, they just want their kids to be successful later in life, so they should start learning Chinese (!!!) at such an early age, even if they can´t speak yet! This is tough.)
Anyway, I think the most young polyglots you can find in a multilingual environment, that´s just natural. And there are the others, who have maybe spent some time there in childhood etc.

Hi everyone. I'm 18 years old and I speak 6 languages. My mother tongue is Portuguese. I've learnt the Spanish, English and German languages at school; and I've taught myself Italian and French. As a seventh language, I'm currently learning Russian through the Assimil method.
*forgot something: even though I've learnt those first three languages at school, I do speak them fluently.

I've been keeping a permanent contact (mainly through the internet) with English from the moment I started studying it at school. Such fact has brought me the consequence of elevating my knowledge to a great level. About German, I studied it for 8 years and got approved on all the certificates my school offered me. Among them, the most advanced one I got is DSD 2, which states the capacity of following university classes in German. I finished school last year, and reading is mainly what I've been doing to maintain and improve my German.

I'm 20, although at 18 I could speak Polish (secondary native language) and English fluently. I also took French for three years in elementary school and Spanish for a year and a half. I taught myself Russian and German as well out of interest.
