Hmm... I'm learning Spanish now using "Spanish With Ease," and I will probably learn French when I'm at a suitable level.
I am debating over whether to use "El Nuevo Francés sin esfuerzo" or "New French With Ease." If I got the Spanish version, that would help me practice my Spanish while learning French. However, I noticed that the English-language version of the book has many more lessons and nearly an extra hour of audio. El Nuevo Francés sin esfuerzo: "Un libro encuadernado de 99 lecciones en 448 páginas y 3 CD de una duración de 2h 16'." New French With Ease: "Hardback, 113 lessons, 608 pages and 4 CDs (total length: 3 hrs 10)." Does anyone know whether New French With Ease covers extra material, and what material that is? Both "Francés perfeccionamiento" and "Using French" have 70 lessons with 3 hours of audio, but the Spanish version is 456 pages while the English is only 350 pages. Considering there are more lessons in the English version I would assume there is a difference as I picked up New French With Ease whilst in Paris and it said it had been updated.
It's preferred to learn another language in your native tongue. You would need to be fluent and also able to understand a decent share of the colloquial language (as the Assimil courses have jokes in them) otherwise it would be a real struggle. I would recommend that you stick with the English-based courses. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Well, I'll eventually have no choice but to learn using French as a base. I suppose it probably is best though to learn a couple other languages before trying to learn from one I'm not a native speaker of.
