My first year at the uni of Bath is almost at its end, which means yet another batch of
exams. Hence, I would have to spend a lot of time revising, but I think I'll manage;
I'm comfortable-ish with two modules, and I know how to revise for one of them. I'm not
sure how to revise for the last two however - they are a bit vague and includes loads
of memorising... Hopefully I'll achieve a 2:1 average this semester too...hopefully....
Anki stats: 533 new Japanese flashcards and 175 new German flashcards.
I also deleted my RtK deck because I became tired of it...and couldn't see how it was
in any way beneficial.
I also notice that most of my "immersion" is Japanese reading (ゼロの使い魔、NHK/NHK
easy, video game dialogue) and German lsitening (Tatort, "Let's Play" videos, etc.)
Thus, I think I need to spend more time reading in German and listening to Japanese.
Recently, I picked up the game ゼルダの伝説・神々のトライフォース, known as "Link to the Past"
in the west, and the dialogue is easy to follow; might be because I'm familiar with the
sort of fantasy vocabulary that the Zelda series uses.

Haven't updated this in a while...
Well, I'm currently done with two of my exams (one went horribly wrong and another went
okay-ish) and in four days' time, I can finally spend more time with languages again.
My next exams are on tuesday (tomorrow), friday and next thursday, but the latter is
actually really easy so it wouldn't require much revision compared to the others.
I've never ever longed so much for summer break to come around before...
Some language related stuff though: I finished subs2srs'ing the 24 first episodes of
Death Note (no Japanese subs for the rest) and the process yielded 790 cards, which
means that 85% of the cards were deleted. I don't use English subs though, so I added
(mostly monolingual) gloss to new words myself.
I've also noticed that my stay here in the UK has actually helped me improve my spoken
English, but I still struggle with stress and pronunciation, but I've still got at
least two years left.
And there's only 11 days left before I return to Norway for the summer. :D

So I've been home for a few days, and it still feels great to have very little to worry
about and no marathon study session every day for several weeks. :D (I do have to make
a CV though... ehh....tomorrow)
(And I can't believe I have to wait until the 11th of July for my first year marks;
that's just cruel...although I think British kids are used to that sort of waiting...)
So, this summer I plan to have weekly goals rather than monthly goals, so I can sort of
adjust them at the end of the week if they are too slack or otherwise. The "weekly"
goals consist of 7 daily goals, and for this week, they are:
Week 1
Japanese:
– At least one hour of reading (Harry Potter this time around)
– At least one hour of "focused" listening
– At least 20 new anki cards (20 new words)
German:
– At least one hour of "focused" listening
– At least 5 new anki cards
The reason for the relatively unbalanced focus is to even out the comprehension levels;
my German comprehension is actually decent, although my output is completely awful and
loaded with Rechtschreibungsfehler. ;)
I might write an entry or two on lang-8. However, just like with music, I can't force
myself to write something; I have to have some sort of inspiration driving me.

what do you usually write about in Japanese? Maybe you could just do a few sentences. I have to start doing that again. Lang-8 has changed their format a bit, it's been so long since I've been there.

Usually mundane stuff like exam angst, sort-of important-ish events, etc. I have no
idea what to write about to be honest..

Do you write Japanese at lang-8 regularly? I've been meaning to go back but it's hard finding the discipline..

Not really, I've only posted two entries since new years. I'm still waiting for
inspiration, I guess...

Week 1:
Japanese:
– 1hhof reading – (6/7)
– 1h of "focused" listening (6/7)
– 20 new anki cards (6/7)
German:
– 1h of "focused" listening (6/7)
– 5 new anki cards (5/7)
I think I burned myself out during the three first week of the exam period and sort of
lost all sorts of self-discipline... and I also have to finish that bloody CV...
marketing oneself is not easy. :(
I also watched through the first season of Naruto (without subs) and I'm surprised by
how much I actually understand. I also started watching 進撃の巨人 Attack on Titan,
which is an excellent show, and you can actually watch it "raw" on animecrazy (except
ep2). Sometimes I wonder where the Elder Weebs who sub them get their raws... It is an
excellent show though, and luckily, there's no annoying female semi-protagonist giving
me a headache this time, and the animation is superb.
I've read about a 4th of the first Harry Potter book, and find myself much more ready
now than my first attempt 6 months or so ago. It is, however, much more difficult to
read than Kino's Journey or Zero's Familiar. Hopefully, it will be the second book I
actually finish in Japanese. I have never read HP (only seen the films), so I don't
know what to expect either.
I think I should stick to the same goals this week as well. Hopefully, I'll regain some
of that lost self discipline this week. :p
