I changed my Google accounts (GMail, YouTube) to French and my phone has been in French for a while. I don't use Siri, though, so I've avoided any headaches with voice recognition so far. I had Firefox in French for a bit, but I found it too hard to navigate the preferences menu when I needed to change some settings: there were simply too many unknown words. Maybe in another month or two.

I think that we could try some "End of the Month Activity".
For instance, each of us could choose a videoclip from Youtube with a song in your TL, write here the lyrics and comment about the nicest words, phrases or grammatical feature of the song. Anyway, I hope that someone will have a better idea :-))

I've done this with my OS settings, Firefox, etc. for various languages in the past and run into this as well, so that I eventually developed a routine. When I want to switch something over (usually browser, gmail, or fb), I spend 30-60 minutes (if necessary) going through and looking for all the different menu commands, etc. that I can find and translating any unknown words with a dictionary (Google Translate). Then, day to day usage of the interface provides an SRS-style reinforcement of those words.
The only real problem is when an unexpected exception calls up a pop-up window and I have trouble understanding it, but that's the risk you run. Don't change language for anything affecting your financial accounts unless and until you feel comfortable doing business in that language as a graphical interface.

I second Flarioca's song idea. It'd be nice to do something to bring the group
together,and keep the thread active.

I like the song idea too.
A bunch of the other teams have created a list of challenges.. I think it originally came from LanguageSponge here. I am in the middle of too much stuff right now (dead car, kitty in heat, and broken tooth) that should all hopefully be taken care of next week, but I was planning on revising that for our team and posting it in the next week or so. If anyone else has the time and inclination, though, you're welcome to beat me to it. =)

I like Kerrie's list from LanguageSponge and the song idea is great too.
Count me in whichever is chosen.

My vocab list is at post 157, for anyone else who's doing French. Feel free to snaffle it for your Anki lists etc if you wish.
- Haven't changed my computer to French yet, though. (Baby steps...)
Has/is anyone else done/is doing the same for their target languages? |

I'm joining the party!
Right now I'm setting the operating system of my laptop to French:

I agree that it would be fun to have a group activity. I really like the song idea, and LanguageSponge's list is amazing! Even if we don't officially choose something from the list, I'll probably be saving it for my own personal use.
