The Glosbe API looks promising: Link .

Audios can be retrieved from Forvo .

Example sentences can retrieved from Tatoeba.

Steve, thanks for this new web app. Looks great, and easy to use!

I have two questions:

Is it possible to mark, translate, and save expressions (multi word terms)?

Are there possibilities to use a better translation engine (than Google Translate)?

Thanks :)

It's not possible to mark-multi word expressions while reading yet, I'm trying to think
of the best UI to do this right now.

For the time being, you can select one word in the reader, and then edit the card in
the Words or Learn tab to include the whole expression.
yes, i'd love to be able to select multi-word expressions too!

3. I'm very willing to put this feature in if people want it. My only concern is that the workflow of managing list export files could be annoying, and my idea with the site is to provide a nice workflow so you don't have to worry about things like this.

Good point. The best thing would be if Anki online had some API which allowed you to export it directly to a user's deck providing they gave their username and password. Don't know if there is such an API, though.

Thanks, I hadn't heard of any of those and they look interesting, I'll keep an eye on
them.

Anki being open source and written in Python, there is definitely an API. One would just need to re-use the methods that Anki uses itself to connect to the server, do a sync once => that's it.

I've updated the site now so that if you select adjacent words in the reader they will
merge to create translations and flashcards with phrase translations. Hope this is
useful!

For now I've added an "Export these words to Anki" link on the Words tab which exports
all words waiting to start learning in Readlang to a text file readable by Anki. You
have to be signed in to Readlang to see this link!

Luckily Anki has duplicate detection so you can keep exporting files every so often and
not create a big mess. Automatically syncing would be nicer but I don't want to spend
the effort to look into the Anki API and user authentication right now, since there's a
lot of other things to improve.

The format of the Anki cards generated is like:

FRONT OF CARD:
wrapped up

Tras unos segundos de durante los cuales cada uno de ellos estaba ________ en sus
propias reflexiones, dijo el brigada en un tono casi misterioso:...

BACK OF CARD:
encerrado

Please let me know if you have more suggestions!
