That sounds like so much fun! And Finnish is a langaguge I've been kinda interested in. However, I don't think I will have enough time for Finnish studies as I will be studying in Hong Kong by then, learning both Cantonese and Mandarin as well as studying other subjects. I will definitely think about it though! When do we need to decide? Also, to me 45 hours in one month sounds like a lot, especially for us who study or work and who study other languages as well. Is it possible to decrease the amount to at least 1 hour a day?

Serpent, what can you tell us about standard language vs. spoken language?

I think 45 hours is a balance between 1 hour a day, which wouldn't likely yield very satisfactory results and wouldn't allow anyone to do more on days when they happen to have more time, and 2 hours, which starts to be too much. Basically, it's an hour a day most days, plus some extra time on the weekends if you're going to meet a tutor or partner. I don't even know if I can do that much on regular days, but I do expect to do more on weekends, and I'd hate to find that I could devote more time and not be able to!

That would negate any mention of awesome, and I'm not sure I'd be ready to go that far.

Everyone does what they think is best. I'll use Assimil, Anki, possibly Knuckles in
Chinaland...
By the way, I tried to send you a private message and your forum mailbox is full.

Very interesting challenge. In fact, you got me so interested that I went on to read the Wikipedia article on Finish, although I will not participate as I don't want to get distracted from my current target languages.
One thing though, I think that 45 hours is not enough to really demonstrate a significant difference between methods. Assuming everyone starts from scratch then everyone should still pretty much be at A1 level. If you did, say, 150 hours over 3 months then perhaps you could make a comparison.
