I understand you, because I'm going through the same situation. I'm struggling to find a room, and most of the adverts seem to be swindles. So I'm also slacking at languages so to speak, since I haven't enough time now.

Anyway, you wrote in German, so that's something, he, he.

Here it was more the fact that the landlords can cherrypick their future residents
because there are more people than places to house them it seems.

Where are you going? (because of last month's exams, I've been terrible at keeping up
with your logs.)

If you use "Haus suchen", it means you're looking for a complete house, otherwise it
would be "Wohnung suchen", "die Wohnungssuche", "auf Wohnungssuche sein", "der
Wohnungssuchstress", though the last one is an invented word but totally
understandable.

"erlernen" sounds a bit old-fashioned to me and I'd also rather use it for something
which is completely like "Ich habe Deutsch innerhalb von 2 Jahren erlernt".

"neuerdings" is used for something you recently started to do and do regularly now,
also for a state of mine.

Examples: Ich höre neuerdings gerne "Die Apokalyptischen Reiter". Sie ist neuerdings
immer so traurig, wenn sie von der Arbeit kommt.

"letztens" is used for something you did a short time ago, genereally for something you
did only once.

I'm not a Heavy Metal fan, so I don't know Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, but there's a lot of good German music out there. However, I didn't know there was German Heavy Metal, although it's probably unlikely that there wasn't any at all.

EDIT: Oops, I just noticed nuriayasmin was faster than me. Anyway, maybe a second correction is useful as well...

Thanks to the both of you. :)
(I would have appreciated German explanations in German as well, though. ;) )

We were looking for a house though; there are five of us and the houses around here are
relatively small; I thought Wohnung was more like a Flat.

Yes, "Wohnung" is a flat, but the word "Wohnungssuche" is a fixed expression and much more common than "Haussuche".

So half of February is gone, and as mentioned earlier, I had made daily goals.
Incoming boring stats:

GERMAN
Add 5 Anki sentence cards# (13/14)
Read two news articles (7/14)
At least an hour of listening* (14/14)

JAPANSEE
Add 10 Anki sentence cards# (14/14)
Read two news articles** (7/14)
Read ten pages of a book#*** (11/14)
At least an hour of listening* (14/14)

ANKI CARDS
Japanese: 209 (75% of total goal)
German: 88 (62% of total goal)

*Listening to music or the radio doesn't count
**Or three NHK Easy article
***I have a few books as text files. Kino no Tabi = ~230 pages

So, in terms of Anki cards, I'm ahead, but I don't always fulfill my daily goals;
however, my aim was to achieve at least 80% of them (#-marked = weighted 2x), which I
did.
This "system" might seem silly, but I find that it has helped me feel more focused and
I'm getting better at using the easily wasted times duirng the day.

Trying to make use of wasted time is half the battle! I like you goal of going for 80%, especially Anki cards -- I've never been able to stay with Anki for long -- your system seems to be working!
