I found that I could use subs2srs with subs files that were a little bit out of sync basically by fiddling with the settings so that you get a bigger chunk of the audio for each line of subtitles.

Yeah, but the show wasn't really that great for learning, because it included a lot of
weird patterns of speech, and a lot of shouting and often several people speaking at
the same time, making many of the audio samples kind of useless.
Death Note has lots of long "monologues" and the speech is much, much more standard
than 任侠ヘルパー.
At least I've got enough death note episodes around with perfect subs to keep me well
fed with anki sentences for about hwo months - the first episode yielded 30-40 usable
cards out of a total of 350-ish.

Nice summary (and hope all exam results to be what you hoped). How do you utilize your flashcards/anki? Sentence on one side/word on other, or? It seems like you have a lot of them, enjoy working with them and, most importantly, are successful at using them to learn vocabulary. Any tips? I tried to do some vocab flashcard work this past week, and found I could only tolerate the torture for about 10 minutes max per day.

I enjoy sentences much more. Cards like these:
Front:
開始
Back:
かいし
start; commencement; beginning; initiation
would force me to think of the English translation, which is something I'd rather
avoid.
These however:
Front:
説得を開始する模様です
Back:
開始: 始めること。また、始まること。
[Front sentence with reading help]
would force me to understand the sentence. The definition on the back is just there to
help me if I din't understand it. No English invovled.
I do about 20-25 minutes of Anki reps per day in Japanese, which isn't too bad. There
are usually around 100 cards due per day.

Oh I know! I wanted to be a premium member last summer, but I wasn't allowed to pay with Paypal (this was before the price increase). I tried three or four times. Now I think they've fixed it and people can pay with Paypal again. But I missed paying the lower price and now if I want to be a member I have to pay 63.

This is embarrasing. :p
I wanted to write 投稿 [~blog post] (toukou), but instead I wrote 高騰 (koutou). :P
So, I spent a good few minutes wandering what was going on here. :p
