I have not been doing any studying at all as I'm going through college finals right now so I definitely can't focus on languages! I'm not feeling too bad about it either, because I like having a definitive starting point (Jan 1). As for team name, I would like to suggest something historically or literature themed. Personally I'm interested in "the Moors" and I'm sure you can imagine why... or perhaps "Arabian Nights" or something with djinn in it. Hello, fellow teammates.
Thank you Johanna for starting the thread. I've been studying Arabic for a few years now (four, I think). However, my level does not reflect that amount of time, since I had already started studying German and that was (still is) my priority. That being said, I want to capitalize on the time already spent studying the language, while sharing this experience with like-minded teammates. I read some about Arabic (like that it has the dual form and of course its diglossia) but I never actually learned it, so next year will be when I do that.
It'd surely be good. Let's do our best to reach that point of time before long.

Great minds think alike, I was thinking the same thing. I'd definitely something short, catchy and easy to pronounce.
Yes, unfortunately Arabic does have diglossia, sigh. Do you know which form or Arabic you're gonna learn? Sure! I've had my Hebrew log for a while so there are some posts there already.
As you can see I speak Hebrew at an intermediate level but I am aiming for advanced fluency one day! By the way, I just want to say I have studied Arabic a bit (I did it for the six week challenge once, but I had already studied it a little before that), so if anyone is an absolute beginner I would be happy to help in any way I can! Zecchino1991, I updated the 1st post with a link to your log. Did you notice a lot of similarities between Arabic and Hebrew? My college roommate taught Hebrew school at her synanogue and she said she could understand Arabic without having to study it. Of course she couldn't speak it though. Takato, diglossia is not that unfortunate, it just makes for more work. IMO, diglossia is the reason Arabic is in the same level of difficulty as Chinese, Japanese and Korean otherwise it'd be a level 4 language alongside Hebrew, Persian and others.
