Given the life-regimen at the Defense Language Institute (from what I have read),
waking up at 5am, going to bed not until at least 10pm, I wonder how that is optimal
for language learning.
7 hours of sleep sems "ok", if you go to sleep right at 10pm but who does that. While
many people can operate fine with 6 hours of sleep, many others need 8 for sure if not
9. And younger people it has been shown are better night owls, going to bed late and
waking up late.
Add all that up, I'm curious about how the schedule affects the learning process in
that environment. I'm guessing all the hours and studying makes up for the detriment,
without 7 hours of sleep for sure I do not think I could operate in such a program like
Defense Language for too long.
Though I guess one can catch up on the weekends...

Do they have a proper lunch break, or is that considered as "just for wimps"?
If they do, perhaps they could catch forty winks after eating.

I was reading this thread because of problems with focus during the times I wish to study. I've known about a program that changes the colour of your monitor (depending on when the sun sets) so that there is no blue light effect.
I've found it to be an excellent tool to make the PC less of a sleep interupting thing. http://justgetflux.com/news/2013/05/29/beta.html
Hope this is of some help to someone here.
