Now that the giant spectacle of crazy that is the Eurovision Song Contest is over - what were your favourites, everyone? I know, I know, most of it was in English, and much of it was garbage as always, but thankfully some countries actually sent some good stuff this year.

It's hard to believe that decent performers and song-writers used to enter the
Eurovision before it became the silly celebration of tackiness that it is today. FRENCH: This became famous as an easy-listening instrumental. It was originally a Eurovision song from 1967 sung by Vicky Leandros for Luxembourg, who astonishingly enough came fourth. Check them out, and if you like them, buy something from them (or even better, if you live in Miami, see their concert!). They're not sponsored by a major label, so they're not rolling in money or anything. Unfortunately, the group has been inactive for quite a while since their founding member died. Take a look at Mazhornyj Rock n roll; it's really funny. Their songs are rather hit-or-miss, so if you don't like this song, look for something between different albums - the quality of the recordings varies with albums. Quite unfortunate, but maybe someone with more Russian skills than me (and perhaps more Google-fu) can have better results.
